http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-21591878 This story doesn't seem particularly clear to me. Presumably PC Fisher is denying assault rather than denying that he hit the guy with his baton? Seems like the defending QC is trying to suggest why the guy might have been hit.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-23943917 Police Scotland officer numbers down after mergerThe number of police officers in Scotland has fallen since the new single force came into being. The eight regional forces merged into Police Scotland on 1 April 2013 and official statistics show there were 172 officers fewer three months later. The figure of 17,324 officers was also down 49 (0.3%) from April 2012. But the Scottish government said it had maintained its pledge to put at least 1,000 more officers onto the streets than when it came into office in 2007. The quarterly strength statistics are the first to be published since Police Scotland came into being - and …

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2408607/Proms-dangerously-English-says-ex-BBC-boss-Sir-Nicholas-Kenyon.html I always enjoyed the somewhat jingoistic programme of music that was the second half of Last Night of The Proms. I am not sure what it is that makes an individual such as this (clearly idiotic) character think that a once-a-year musical celebration at the end of what is the major season of international music that has an "English" theme is "dangerous"? Jerusalem, sea-shanties, Rule Britannia don't seem dangerous to me! I agree with one of the comments in the DM - this guy should be stripped of his Knighthood - wholly inappropriate that he should hav…

Met Police technology 'ineffective and outdated', report claims Police reliance on radios was a 'step back in time', it was claimed Crime in London is higher because police technology is "out-of-date, ineffective and expensive to maintain", a London Assembly report has claimed. The Budget and Performance Committee's report on technology spending in the Metropolitan Police said officers "take a step back in time" when they go to work. It said Scotland Yard faces "a huge challenge" in updating its technology while facing budget cuts. The Met said it welcomed the report. The report said: "The Metropolitan Police Service faces a huge challenge. It urgently needs b…

source I'm not sure what to make of all this. He certainly was a danger to the public and not a very pleasant individual and I doubt most of these signatories have any idea about the guy.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23262476 In may respects the FBU members are facing some of the same challenges as us for example working longer and remaining fit enough in order to get to pension age, as well as increased contributions. The fire minister, even says the same things about firemen's pensions as I have heard about police pensions i.e. that they will still be among the most generous around and which would cost considerable more in the private sector. However the FBU can go on strike so they have a weapon which we can't match so it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=T-MAj5stKfM WHEN West Midlands Police’s specialist search and entry teams come knocking there’s nowhere for criminals to hide! Drug deal suspects in Sparkhill found that to their cost as officers from the Operations Support Unit (OSU) – a division providing specialist search warrant and public order back-up – shattered their morning lie-in during a rapid-entry raid. They executed a ‘glass entry’ at the St John’s Road property, smashing the house’s front window to gain access before detaining two people on suspicion of peddling class A drugs. "> PC Helen Spearman from the OSU said the team consider a raft…
