PCs Fiona Bone, 32, and Nicola Hughes, 23, were shot dead while they investigated a suspected burglary in Hattersley, Tameside, last year. The service will take place at Hyde police station and the force will hold a minute's silence at 10:53, the time when the officers were killed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24135219 Privately-run "drunk tanks" should be considered to tackle alcohol-fuelled disorder, police chiefs have said. Under the idea, drunks who are a danger to themselves would be put in cells to sober up and then pay for their care. The Association of Chief Police Officers, which is launching a campaign on alcohol harm to coincide with university freshers' season, said problem drinking was on the increase. The Police Federation said the plan was "neither a viable nor long-term" fix. Northamptonshire Chief Constable Adrian Lee, who leads on the issue of problem drinking for Acpo in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, told the BBC that …

It would have been Ranroz Birthday today(Charles Walbran ex RAF)if he had still been with us. He was a good friend of this Forum, and spent a very long time making money via his wrist bands for the RAF Bomber Memorial in Green Park, London, he even managed to get one of the Bee Gees to help. . Gone but not forgotten. Where ever you are Charles, Happy Birthday.

Source: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2013/sep/12/detective-conduct-hearing-murder The story: He really let himself down without cautioning the guy and informing him of his rights. Its constantly drilled into us how we have to make sure things are clean and above board with making sure everything is absolutely lawful. As a result he lost Wilts Constab a case... But surely some allowances should be made for the D/supt seeing as he got somewhere!! It would be upsetting to see him lose his job over this!

I would not have bothered with this tripe story if not for the response by the Police Federation,. Hit nail on the head! Dear Editor, Peter Hitchens’ comment ‘Get rid of the guns, cars and Tasers and we might just end up with real policemen’ (Mail on Sunday, 15 September) was at best embarrassingly ignorant and at worst unfathomably insulting and offensive. There is a reason why Mr Hitchens rarely encounters an officer on ‘foot patrol’ these days, and if he was able to step out from his own bubble he would realise it is not because they are ‘staying indoors or racing about in cars’. Perhaps Mr Hitchens would care to spend a night with officers on patrol in a busy town…

Theresa May warning over police targets 'comeback' Ms May had praise for the police for doing "more with less" Some senior police officers are bringing back targets to try to avoid deciding crime-fighting policies, Home Secretary Theresa May has said. She told the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales that the government had scrapped "top-down diktats" and urged police confidence. Targets were "making a comeback... as a security blanket" for police, she said. Ms May also rejected concerns that front-line policing had been cut to "dangerously low levels". Speaking to 250 senior leaders from across the service at the conference in Warwickshire, s…
