When called on to use weapons, civilian police officers are often seek…

http://www.public-standards.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/CSPL-survey-2012-WEB-VERSION.pdf I cannot be asked to read all of this, but Police come out well in it! Trust in those holding public office to tell the truth • Over the five surveys, public perceptions of whether a range of professions in the public domain can be trusted to tell the truth demonstrate consistent relative ratings: High Court judges and senior police officers score highly, while tabloid journalists, government ministers and MPs in general, score poorly. When these findings are compared with other British and European data, levels of trust in these professions are not especially low,…

I don’t post much these days but I have been reading with interest the tribulations and vilification of a Det. Supt called Steve FULCHER with Wilts Police and wonder what contributors think of this case. He ran a murder enquiry which involved a taxi driver who had murdered at least one and most probably two women. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-24017313 The murderer led the officer to the site of his first victim (presumably whilst in custody and under arrest but for some reason not cautioned) and went on to direct his team to a further site where another body lay. The problem appears to be that, for the second body, the murderer…

Genuine enforcement officers for the Environment Agency have the powers of a constable around the waterways so impersonating them isn't good. I'm not sure whether or not there's a specific criminal offence that'd apply to impersonating them per se unless the person was purporting to exercise a police power (in which case Police Act 1996). I know they carry batons so if the impostor has one of those you could nick him for possessing an offensive weapon. Obviously taking money from the person is outright theft (or possibly fraud).
