A lot of people are up in arms about this today. It's quite a long and convoluted incident, culminating in a specific complaint from one person about these jokes, and is a result of a personal feud than something which has caused upset to a great number of people, such as the horrid Clutha hate comments that have surfaced recently. Thug jailed after off-duty transport policeman savagely attacked on the Metro on his way to work in Newcastle. PC Gavin Alcorn, who works for British Transport Police, was heading to start his shift when he saw Andrew Patterson light up in his carriage. He went and told the drunken lout to put it out and told him he was a police officer. Patterson initially did as he was told but then started harassing PC Alcorn, accusing him of pretending to be a police officer. A court heard Patterson repeatedly punched the officer in the face, squeezed his windpipe, grabbed him between the legs, pushed him down on to the seat and swore at him in front of other terrified passengers.…

http://www.bridgwatermercury.co.uk/news/bridgwater_news/10689089.Former_top_cop_in_Bridgwater_given_VIP_treatment_on_100th_birthday/?ref=rss This is something most people love to see, someone who has been retired for more years than they served(especially when they did their full 30). Mr Fisher was never my Boss, but I had dealings with him a couple of times and he was a REAL GENT, who treated everyone with respect, and was well thought of by all and sundry. You never has to make an appointment to see Freddie, his door was always open, and he never refused to see anyone.

Theresa May has called stop and search powers as a waste of police time. She is looking at reviewing the powers with a view to getting rid of them. She states the powers undermine public confidence. I say b****cks. These powers are hear to protect the public and identify criminals. They prevent crime, save lives and help to prosecute offenders. How the hell are we supposed to work when one of our main powers is removed. Political correctness wins again. I understand not all stop and searches are correct, but in my experience the majority are and I can honestly say I have never abused this power.

Hampshire Police Federation chair John Apter says many officers are not reporting assaults because they believe it’s ‘part of the job’ and that the courts will take little action Assaults on police officers should be treated as a specific offence against those who hold a public office, says the chair of Hampshire Police Federation, John Apter. His call for a specific offence to be introduced comes off the back of figures from an FoI request to the force by The News show, which found that 2,895 officers had been attacked in the line of duty in the Hampshire force over the past three years, up to April this year. Around 800 assaults on police officers took place over t…

Steve Hodgson quit his Met Police post in disgrace after using the expression 'n***** in the woodpile' in front of shocked colleagues A Metropolitan Police finance boss has quit in disgrace after using the expression 'n***** in the woodpile' in front of shocked colleagues. Steve Hodgson is said to have been thrown out of the meeting he was chairing after making the offensive comment. Mr Hodgson, who was hired by the force in February to cut hundreds of millions of pounds from its budget, left the premises immediately. He is thought to have been overseeing a finance discussion between staff from the force's finance, human resources and IT departments at the time. The…

Our members voted almost three to one for strike action after a below inflation 1% rise was imposed by the Met last month. Union officials met last Friday (20 Dec) to discuss the way forward as, despite being in dispute for over a month, no improved offer has been made. Reps felt as a last resort they needed to call out members. In the meantime, the union is again writing to the Met setting out what we believe is the way forward. Despite the difficulties of meeting over the next seven days, we remain ready to discuss pay if a significantly improved offer is received. If the strike goes ahead then around 7,500 civilian workers in the world-renowned London police force w…

From neighbourhoods to the night-time economy, officers are calling for a re-think over their responsibilities as forces continue to shrink. Royston Martis reports. Date - 16th December 2013 By - Royston Martis - Police Oracle 15 Comments A new year is fast approaching – but is it also time for a new approach to policing? Speak to front line officers and they will tell you tough decisions need to be made – that with smaller budgets and shrinking officer numbers, the remaining personnel cannot do everything. But when you consider the remit of their role – ranging from neighbourhood policing to mental health work, patrolling the night time economy and even social medi…

I've have found all this intriguing as up until about 48 hours ago, it seemed to be directed at online comments and the media. Here's what I don't get: the advisories are not enforceable outside the UK. So if I knew juicy details about a matter currently on trial in the UK, I could freely relay or discuss online on any non-UK site. In the US, if it is deemed that a jury may be influenced by press coverage or anything else, they are sequestered. I can't remember if they are allowed newspapers or television. I know that have limited family contact. Is jury sequestration not done in the UK? I remember the fuss about Ryan Giggs. It was, I believed tweeted about outsid…
