POLICE are so stretched they are ordering victims of crime to SKYPE them instead of seeing them in person. Police are asking people to Skype them to 'save time and resources' The scheme - believed to be the first in the country - is being trialled in Peterborough, Cambs., where the force faces huge budget cuts. Until now, people who rang 101 to speak to police were offered an appointment with an officer at their home. But under the trial members of the public will be invited to go to the station or speak to an officer on the phone - or on a video call via Skype. Cambridgeshire police claimed the Skype scheme would make their service more efficient and cost-effect…

By HeraldandPost | Posted: October 31, 2015 Cllr Danielle Stone The position of Police and Crime Commissioner in Northamptonshire should be... Next May we have Police & Crime Commissioner elections here in Northamptonshire and across England. Police and Crime Commissioners were set up by the last Coalition Government in 2012 despite opposition from both Labour and the general public. At the last general election Labour pledged to abolish them but the Conservatives wanted to keep them. Personally I still think they should be abolished for the following reasons. I am still concerned it causes politicisation of the police. Party politics sh…

The number of UK officers investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been cut from 29 to four, the Metropolitan Police says. The Met said the "vast majority" of the work in its inquiry into Madeleine's disappearance had been completed. Madeleine's parents said they "fully understand" the decision. They said they remained "hopeful" their daughter would be found. Madeleine, from Rothley in Leicestershire, was three years old when she went missing from her family's holiday apartment at the Ocea…

Two of the country's most senior police officers have signalled that the era of routine patrols by "bobbies on the beat" has come to an end. They said funding cuts would lead to a transformation in investigating crime. The Home Office said police reform was working and crime was falling. The police service does not have a ring-fenced budget and has been told to expect a 25% to 40% reduction in funding in November's Comprehensive Spending Review. 'Funding from ba…
