Two policemen sentenced - one jailed - for assaulting man Two Kent policemen have been found guilty of assaulting a man they were trying to arrest. The officers - one a Sergeant - were sentenced yesterday following an investigation. They now face a disciplinary hearing. The two, from Medway, were found guilty of assault by Sittingbourne Magistrates, following their arrest in August 2008. Both men were charged with common assault by beating in October after an investigation into claims the officers had mistreated a man during an arrest in the Medway area. Sergeant Oliver Tingley and PC Luke Barlow were immediately suspended from duty on their arrest. Tingley was s…

Police Facebook abuse 'juvenile' Northumbria Police said it supported the rights of people to express views A Facebook group which contains abusive comments about Northumbria Police has been dismissed as childish by the chairman of the Police Federation. The online group, which has more than 8,000 members, includes postings directed at specific serving officers. But speaking on BBC Newcastle, Paul McKeever rejected suggestions that it should be removed. He said most of the comments were juvenile, and that closing down such sites was a "slippery slope". The group's existence was raised in the House of Lords in March, when Lord Mackenzie of Framwellgate said it was an…

The Metropolitan Police said video footage on YouTube which appears to show an officer hitting a woman during the G20 protests would be examined. The footage shows the woman swearing at a police officer who then appears to hit her in the face. The officer also apparently strikes the woman on the leg with his baton. The Independent Police Complaints Commission said it had received a number of complaints about the action of officers at the protests in London. A statement from the Met said: "The apparent actions of this officer raise immediate concerns. "Once we were notified of this footage by a media agency this afternoon we began to take steps to identify this o…

Well let us hope we can kick him out, horrible thing that he is. We also should consider giving longer sentences to these people, this was an act of terror.

This was the guy who handed me my warrant card when he was DCC of Surrey. To be honest I don't think he would ever have made it to Commissioner as he had upset the applecart too many times.
