http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7976444.stm The car/tank has been painted to look like a police vehicle and the "Riot Squad" protesters driving it are dressed in police-like uniforms. I'm not sure what this protest was intended to be, but I find the whole thing pretty disturbing!

Dogs seized in fighting inquiry Two suspected fighting dogs have been seized and three people arrested after police and RSPCA raids in Lancashire. Officers visited addresses on three streets in Blackburn as part of an investigation into dog fighting. Two men, aged 22 and 25, and a 22-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and are being questioned by police in the town. The dogs will now be looked after by RSPCA officers, who also seized some tropical fish and a bearded dragon. Det Insp Joanne Lightbown, of Lancashire Police, said: "This should demonstrate our commitment to take firm action against anyone believed to be housing dangerous dog…

Police warn of G20 protest scale Known activists are planning in an "unprecedented" way ahead of next month's G20 summit in London, the Metropolitan Police have warned. Cdr Bob Broadhurst, in charge of the policing operation, said anarchists and environmentalists were plotting a series of demonstrations. Groups active in the late 1990s were re-emerging and forming new alliances to protest at the meeting, he said. The operation will involve thousands of officers and cost an estimated £7.2m. World leaders, including US President Barack Obama, will begin to arrive in the UK on 31 March. The next day campaigners are expected to target the City of London in a seri…

A police finance officer has been given a nine-month suspended jail sentence for stealing £2,382 from the Dorset force to fund his gambling addiction. David Cox, of Bournemouth, worked for the force for 31 years but started stealing after losing money while betting on horse racing. The 48-year-old was caught last year when a criminal complained £222 of money seized from him was missing. Cox admitted four counts of theft between October 2005 and 2008. He stole from the safe at Bournemouth police station where he worked, from the Dorset Police Benevolent Fund and from the force's Foreign National Office, Weymouth Magistrates' Court heard. His crimes only came to…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7981954.stm A prison illegally destroyed an inmate's mobile phone, the High Court has ruled in a move which could lead to "significant" compensation. Will this ruling now apply to everything one wants to have in prison, say a licenced firearm. Prison officers confiscate it, you go to court, and get it back? AND get compensated. :smiley_vomit:

Well we always hear news reports and see videos involbing disgruntled MOP's being told they are not allowed to film officers in a public place. I have seen videos where it goes into great detail on the law and why they should be allowed to film wherever they want whenever they want as it is a "free country". So I read this news report on the daily fail and it seems to be a different story the other way round! Is it just me or are some people massive hypocrits who are only interested in human rights when it works to further their own agenda? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...ew-filming.html

Link Of course if you actually look at the Mayor's press release, you'll see that the £32M actually doesn't amount to much... It's the total funding (all running costs, recruitement, HR, training, kits etc)... it doesn't state the time period covered by the funding (convenient) but it's safe to assume it's from this financial year until the end the financial yr 2011. Maybe you can spend some of the money on Radio's and other essential kit before it gets swallowed up by the Met's support functions. Lockers might be nice

A man who drove a 4x4 into two police cars during a high speed pursuit has been jailed for three years and given a 10-year driving ban. William MacRae, from Alness, admitted driving dangerously at various roads in Dingwall, Conon Bridge and Maryburgh on 9 October last year. The 29-year-old also pled guilty to assaulting three police officers by striking their vehicles. The High Court in Glasgow heard MacRae has 22 previous convictions. Northern Constabulary have praised the officers involved for "keep cool under intense pressure". Judge Lord Brailsford told MacRae his driving was "truly reprehensible" and that it was "simple luck" the police officers were not inju…

The old fashioned "cop shop" could soon be disappearing in some places, with cash constraints shaping thinking on how to police communities. New technology and budget pressures means forces are looking at how to put more of their officers on the beat while reducing the number of buildings. South Wales Police is selling off four Cardiff stations. It says the stations to be shut, some more than 100 years old, are expensive to maintain with some in poor repair. As it prepares to open a £17m divisional HQ at Cardiff Bay, the force has been criticised over the sell-off plans for the stations at Roath, Cathays, Canton and Grangetown areas of the city. But the force's c…
