At least 72 officers suffered broken bones during training due to "horseplay or lack of skill" a Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) report has said. Of the 382 staff involved in major accidents between January 2007 and last December, 19% were injured during mandatory training exercises. Officers fractured their chests, hands, feet, ankles and wrists, while learning how to make arrests. The Metropolitan Police (Met) said the training "carries a risk of injury". The figures were submitted by the Met's human resource team to the MPA's corporate governance committee. Police apology over suicide rope The couple had separated but were still close at the time of Mr Gilmore's death Police have apologised to a widow for giving her the rope her husband had used to kill himself. Angie Gerelli, 52, who was separated from her husband, was given the rope when officers returned his possessions. Computer trainee John Gilmore, 50, was found dead in a park near his home in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, in November. Ch Insp Jay Dave of South Wales Police said: "This was a very unfortunate incident and I would like to apologise for any distress caused as a result." But I actually support this group. us MOPs have been robbed blind by these bankers. They say they're sorry then walk away with huge bonuses and huge pensions. Obviously they're not sorry are they? The RBS boss in a moral sense is a theiving scumbag who has destroyed people's lives for his own lavish lifestyle. But unfortunately under the law, he's done nothing wrong.
