A new police communication system has been plagued by breakdowns, including during some of the biggest emergencies in Devon and Cornwall. "Airwave" failed on 93 occasions between 2005 and 2008, according to figures released under a Freedom of Information request. The hi-tech digital radio system failed when the MSC Napoli ran aground and looters descended on Devon in 2007. Devon and Cornwall Police said it was working hard to build new masts. The force admitted problems had occurred in remote areas or when the volume of calls had overwhelmed the system. The police federation told BBC South West's Home Affairs Correspondent Simon Hall it was concerned about the r…

I am sure I cannot be alone in disgust at seeing a small contingent of muslim protesters at the home coming of the Anglian Regiment from Iraq. Despite the potential for a serious breach of the peace by the protesters, the police action appears to be limited to filming the protesters and holding back the solddiers well wishers from ripping the protesters apart. Why are the police so reluctant to take positive action against muslims? Without doubt if it had been UK protesters with the sort of inflamatory posters dispalyed, at a muslim convention or meeting there would have been no shortage of positive police action. I have tonight received a telepone call from a friend i…

BBC NEWS Just watched this...Unlikely, I think that Law and Order will benefit, given the cost, but can think of a few on the other side who will invest. If Obama's wearing it, it's only a matter of time. So what's an ARV supposed to carry then? Ray guns?..Felt for the lass who had to model for the demo - no way I'd have taken that detail!

Violence broke out as 30 people surrounded a BNP vehicle outside the Ellesmere Pub in St Helens Road in Leigh on Friday evening. Tony Ward, 48, was hit with a hammer and later treated in hospital. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, Greater Manchester Police said. Officers arrived at the pub to discover the BNP's trailer had been overturned, said a police spokesman. A traffic diversion was put in place on St Helen's Road, while the trailer was removed and the road was closed. It has since reopene…

Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...ghed-beard.html A Muslim police officer claims he was forced out of his job by colleagues who made fun of his beard and called him a 'f***ing Paki'. PC Javid Iqbal, 38, said white officers openly discussed in front of him how they were ' better' than their ethnic-minority colleagues. The married father of two also claims officers pulled faces at each other if told they had to go out on patrol with him and forced him to walk home from a job instead of picking him up. PC Javid Iqbal: 'My beard is an important part of my identity' Mr Iqbal says he was sacked after fellow-officers in Luton launched a 'smear and wit…

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...ap-targets.html Is this another argument for privatisation of the police service? Surely if a private company had confidence ratings as low as this it would face competition and be replaced. Post edited to reflect actual news story and not a made up one - Altair.

I think it's inaccurate and simply wrong to accuse police of using 'sus law' for the S.1 searches that were carried out - it's clearly a political gimmick. All of the protesters were trespassing, and taking consideration that they intended to break into the power station I would say that there is grounds. This was clearly an aggravated trespass as they were there to cause disruption on private land to what is ultimately a lawful activity - so there was clearly a power to demand names and addresses as well in my view. I would like to know why the lib-dems think it's acceptable to support such illegal and unlawful behavior by the protesters.
