Before anybody jumps down my throat nothing quoted here is OPSEC, and can easily be found trawling the interweb and is posted here for information only If you don't live in Northern Ireland you could have been mistaken that things had quietened down a lot from the bad old days, unfortunately despite the good Friday and St Andrew's Agreement and even with Sinn Fein being involved in the Government of Northern Ireland doesn't mean that terrorism from republican splinter groups has gone away. The RIRA was formed in 1997 following a split in the Provisional Irish Republican Army. It is an illegal organisation in the Republic of Ireland and designated as a terrorist organisa…

Police have been accused of using sleep-deprivation to intimidate climate change protesters in Kent. Protesters at last year's Climate Camp gathering at Kingsnorth were woken up by The Clash's I Fought The Law and the Hi-de-Hi! theme, a report claimed. The Liberal Democrats, who presented the study to Parliament, renewed their calls for an inquiry into the policing. Kent Police said the team responsible for playing loud music inappropriately was from another police force. About 1,000 demonstrators attended the camp in August to protest against plans for a new coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth. The Lib Dems said policing was disproportionate and outrageous. …

Police involved in shooting a man dead at Guildford Cathedral will not face criminal charges, says the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). David Sycamore, 39, who suffered from manic depression, was shot on the cathedral steps on 30 November 2008. The full IPCC report has been passed to the coroner. It will not be made public until after an inquest, at which it will form a major part of the evidence. Four firearms officers were taken off operation duties last year. An interim report released in December 2008 said Mr Sycamore told a friend he expected to die. Mike Franklin, IPCC commissioner for the South East, said: "I have considered the investigation r…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7938030.stm I saw Mr Gursel Demeni on the news tonight. He is now seeking legal advice as he feels he was only stopped because he was Kurdish. I can see where he is coming from though. The police routinely stop people with 20 police cars, 10 armed police officers and a police helicopter just because they are Kurdish. Happens all the time! People like this make my ***** itch.

Cheshire Police have apologised to Premier League striker Victor Anichebe after officers challenged him as he looked in a jeweller's shop window. The Everton player was window-shopping with a friend in Knutsford, Cheshire, when officers confronted the pair, eventually handcuffing his friend. Police said they were acting after a spate of robberies but admitted it was a "less than proportionate reaction". Mr Anichebe, 20, said the incident was "embarrassing and totally humiliating". He said in a statement: "Whilst I do fully understand Cheshire Police's desire to tackle the problem of robberies on jewellery shops in the Knutsford area, I remain deeply upset and very ang…

Hey all. I read this this week: This has all come about as a result of the Stephan Lawrence review, 10 years on from the inquiry. Just wanted to know what your opinions were on this issue. To quote Chris Herbert, Police Review Editor; "There is no doubt that academic qualifications, for some, can be a boon. But why force those with potential through one big sausage machine when all they want to do is kick on with their career? It makes no sense" or does it? Note: I tried to find an online reference to this, but couldnt so here is the hardcopy reference for it: Police Review, 27th February 2009, pages 5 and 15.

Figures expose police convictions More than 1,000 serving police officers in Britain have criminal convictions, according to figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act. More than half of the 1,063 convictions relate to speeding or other motoring offences, 77 officers have convictions for violence and 96 for dishonesty. The Liberal Democrats, who obtained information from 41 forces, called the figures "staggering". Police chiefs said each case was assessed on its merits. Serving officers who are convicted do not face automatic dismissal, but the Association of Chief Police Officers said it was "very rare" for people with convictions to be recruited by …

A memory stick containing information on hundreds of police investigations has gone missing in Edinburgh. A search was launched after the loss was reported on 26 February - up to two months after it disappeared at Lothian and Borders Police's headquarters. The USB memory stick contains 750 entries on vehicles "of interest" to police, along with other intelligence. Police said its loss did not compromise anyone involved in any ongoing or previous police investigations. It is understood the information on the stick was not encrypted as it was being transferred within a secure compound inside the force's headquarters in the Fettes area of the city. The memory stick…

Abusive partners could be placed on a register and monitored by police, under plans being considered by the Government. The move would allow potential future victims to be warned of their history. Police could also be given powers to ban offenders from the family home for a fortnight. The tough proposals will be set out in a consultation document on reducing domestic violence, due to be unveiled by the Home Office today. It will include ideas for tackling issues such as partner abuse, honour killings, female genital mutilation, and the sexualisation of young girls. Cracking down on the problem Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has asked Wiltshire Chief Constable Brian Moor…
