Driver trapped underwater in car The woman had just been able to breathe despite being trapped A woman has been rescued after becoming trapped in her car underwater in an accident in Wiltshire. Her vehicle came off the A360 at Littleton Panell, near Devizes, and landed upside down in the water. A police officer who was the first to arrive at the scene of the accident jumped in to free the woman and carried her to the bank. She was taken to Bath's Royal United Hospital with injuries which are not considered life-threatening. How on earth can this judge think that a 33 year old woman sleeping with a vulnerable child does not warrant a jail sentence. The offence was aggravated by the fact that she was in a position of trust, and yet still he lets her walk free.

A judge has criticised Lancashire Police for failing to breath test a teenage mother who crashed a car in killing an 18-year-old man. It was "inexcusable" that Kayleigh Ann Goodwin, 18, of Rockliffe Villas, Bacup was not breath tested, Judge Beverley Lunt said at Burnley Crown Court. Goodwin was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and jailed for four-and-a-half years. Craig Cronshaw died after Goodwin's car crashed in Stacksteads. Her friend Ruth Bailey was also injured when the car crashed after they had been on a night out in December 2007. A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing criminal damage after a car was driven into the front of a police station. The green Rover 420 crashed into the main doors of the building at Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, shortly after 0530 GMT on Sunday. Dyfed-Powys Police said the man had been bailed, but detained under the Mental Health Act. Officers appealed for witnesses to come forward after the incident. A burglar broke into a detective's home in Northamptonshire and stole his unmarked police car after disabling the CCTV camera with a bin bag.Richard Howell, 33, covered up the camera's motion sensors before an accomplice fished out the keys to the officer's unmarked Saab 95 car through the letterbox. Police are preparing to face a "summer of rage" in the UK as people join protests over the economic downturn, says a senior Met Police officer. "Known activists" were likely to foment unrest, with the recession creating more "footsoldiers" to join them, Supt David Hartshorn told the Guardian. A mother-of-three, whose business made more than £20m from selling high speed boats to drugs cartels, has been given a two-year suspended prison sentence. Ellen George, 43, of Lowestoft, Suffolk, had pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court to five counts of trying to defraud the Inland Revenue. Police negotiators are talking to a man inside a factory who is believed to have an explosive device. The man entered Alfred Knight metal works in St Helens, Merseyside, around midday, prompting bosses to evacuate the works. Police say they are talking to the man, who was described as "acting suspiciously" and armed officers have surrounded the premises.
