CAMBRIDGESHIRE Constabulary cops have been abusing their warrant cards to gain entry into the area's clubs and bars free of charge, the force says. Officers and staff have been caught 'blagging' their way into nightspots for nothing, prompting bosses to issue a stern disciplinary warning to their staff. A newsletter sent to all members of the force, and seen by Police Review this week, states: 'Staff should consider their behaviour at nightclubs or other licenced premises. 'On several occasions, inappropriate production of warrant or force identification cards to gain free or cheap access to locations has been highlighted; this is not permitted.' The force said police…

Source In short a extreme Christian church is coming to the UK from the USA to protest against a gay play. They usually picket dead soldiers funeral in the USA, denounce gays and generally preach hatred to those who are not fundamentalists. They "thank God for dead soliders" as well as many many other extremist views. Video of a picket they took part in: Video 1 Video 2 What laws in the UK (if any) do we have to stop these people from doing such things and generally preaching hate? if they do come to the UK, I may go down to London and see what goes on. I may take with me, my iPod and loud speakers and play Elton John songs. And am serious. These people actually make…

I rather surprised that the Mails story about APCO has not made it onto these pages yet! Article online here Could it be that officers would be nervous about posting ANY comment on the activities of ACPO here? I have long been concerned that a body which advises the Government on policy and policing matters is in fact a limited company, but the revelations of them using information facilitated held by the police for commercial gain intrigue me! Do any posters here share this concern, or could explain why I should not be worried? Or do they simply not care to jeopardise their careers by commenting on the issue, where their superiors might read it? The "variety of l…

I think that's incredibly brave of those officers to do what they did. I also hope the third one that got away is caught soon,

Ten members of the Metropolitan Police's crime squad in Enfield, north London, have been suspended from duty in an anti-corruption investigation. The force said two more officers have been placed on restrictive duties for the duration of the inquiry. The investigation centres on the alleged mishandling of property. No arrests have been made. In a brief statement, the Met said it "demands the highest levels of honesty and integrity from its officers." A spokesman would not confirm any more details but said the suspensions would not affect day-to-day policing. BBC

The Law Lords have ruled that radical cleric Abu Qatada can be deported from the UK to Jordan where he faces jail for terrorism. Abu Qatada, 48, one of Europe's most influential extremists, had alleged that his conviction in Jordan was based on evidence extracted by torture. The home secretary said she was "delighted" at the decision, calling him "a truly dangerous individual". Abu Qatada's lawyer said she had lodged an application to appeal. Gareth Peirce has submitted an application to the European Court of Human Rights. Her client cannot be deported until the appeal bid has been considered. The five Law Lords who unanimously backed Abu Qatada's removal also s…

A "glass ceiling" remains for minority officers in the Metropolitan Police, the chairman of the force's Muslim Police Association has claimed. Inspector Fiaz Choudhary told an inquiry into discrimination in the service that white colleagues would often "recruit in their own image". But "enormous progress" had been made in the 10 years since the Stephen Lawrence murder inquiry, he added. The inquiry was set up after a string of race claims against the force. Known as the "Metropolitan Police Authority Race and Faith review", it was established by Mayor Boris Johnson and is being chaired by Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) member Cindy Butts. It is being held 1…

SOURCE http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...ords-check.html Britain's most powerful police body is being run as a private business with an annual income of around £18million. The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), which oversees everything from anti-terrorism policy to speed cameras, was last night facing demands that it be disbanded, following a Mail on Sunday investigation into its activities which include: Selling information from the Police National Computer for up to £70 – even though it pays just 60 pence to access those details. Marketing ‘police approval’ logos to firms selling anti-theft devices. Operating a separate private firm of…

A former head of MI5 has accused the government of exploiting the fear of terrorism to restrict civil liberties. Dame Stella Rimington, 73, said people in Britain felt as if they were living "under a police state" because of the fear being spread by ministers. In an interview with Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia and published in the Daily Telegraph, she also attacks the approach taken by the United States. "The US has gone too far with Guantanamo and the tortures," she said. "MI5 does not do …

Anyone got any thoughts on the Pirate bay court case that commenced in Sweden today? (Pirate bay enables people to find others willing to share audio, video, games and other files) http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/feb/16/pirate-bay I’m all for free software, films and music so I’m going to be watching this with interest. (Apparently the site has tens of millions of regular users and generates the owners millions of pounds in advertising fees)

http://press.homeoffice.gov.uk/press-relea...ice-on-the-beat Home Secretary Jacqui Smith today announced the next step in common sense policing by scrapping a police timesheet. Yeah Miss home secretary, when i see it i believe it, BTW, is there a general election in the offering? "Police forces are being empowered to engage with the communities they serve and tackle the issues that matter most to them." This area has a low crime rate, so what most matters to me. Lots of Cops in cars, handing out points to those who prefer to drive in a manor, that would fail a driving test. This message comes from Stoke Newington.

A Norfolk Police constable has been fined £2,500 for passing confidential information to a friend. Pc Liam Reddy, 33, admitted breaching the Data Protection Act after looking at the police computer for a friend who had been stopped for a driving offence. It showed the man was suspected of involvement in a criminal offence. Norwich Magistrate's Court heard that when the man contacted police about this information, Pc Reddy was arrested. District Judge Philip Browning, sentencing, said: "It was clear that you abused your position as a police officer. "I recognise that, almost certainly, this means the end of your career." Simon Nicholls, defending, said: "Mr Re…

Teenager jailed over death crash Teenager jailed over crash death An Australian teenager has been jailed for five years for killing a woman when he hit her on a pedestrian crossing. Daniel Meredith, 19, of Cherwell Road, Heathfield, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing at Lewes Crown Court. Christine Fraser, 46, of Robertsbridge, died at the scene of the crash in the East Sussex town last September. Meredith was also banned from driving for five years, and received 11 points on his licence. Sometimes I do think the world is a bit mixed up - 5 years for a killing a pedestrian but only 3 years for killing a family of 6. There a…
