Sorry this is a bit late everyone, but it's only by two days? Anyway, interesting little article about unpaid work and other community services. Basically, a good idea, but not supervised well enough I feel is the opinion. It's worth looking at the article's website as there's a radio and video interview that's worth a watch/listen.

From the Federation: Ladies & Gents, Saturday's Times reported that Harry Roberts, the man who gunned down 3 unarmed Police Officers in 1966 in Braybrook Street, East Acton has had his first Parole Board Hearing, which could see him being released from prison within the next few months. Those of you who are old enough will remember the nation's shock at the events of August 1966, and the national outcry. Roberts and his accomplices avoided the Hangman's noose as the Death Penalty had been repealed the year before. What many people will not know, is that Roberts had managed to avoid the Death Penalty a few years before. During a burglary, Roberts cut off the finger…

This tragic incident happened literally minutes away from my home last year. As the article mentions, should the over 70's should sit a hazard perception test and medical, to prove their competence to drive on our roads." I think they should. The family of two people killed by a 73-year-old driver has called for all over-70s to sit further driving tests. Channon Kevern, 12, and her step-father Terry Stubbs, 29, of Fawley in Hampshire, died on the A326 at Dibden Purlieu near Southampton, on 23 August. Ann Larke was making a U-turn when she hit the pair's motorcycle. She admitted two counts of causing death by driving without due care and attention. Larke, of Tern …

Published Date: 01 March 2009 An HIV positive man has been arrested after a series of women complained he had unprotected sex with them, without mentioning that he had the virus. The 39-year-old, reported to be an ex-serviceman, is said to have had unsafe intercourse with 'a number' of women in the East Devon area, police said. The man, from Bournemouth, was arrested and questioned over his alleged failure to let his lovers know about his HIV status. He was released on police bail until May 11. Devon and Cornwall police have not revealed how many women have made statements, nor their current states of health. A force spokesman said: "Devon and Cornwall Police can conf…

A woman given an Asbo for making repeated suicide attempts was arrested near cliffs just hours after failing to overturn the order, it has emerged. Emergency services were called out near Aberystwyth last Friday to Amy Beth Dallamura, 45, of Hove, Sussex. Aberystwyth magistrates had refused to lift her anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) just hours earlier. A previous court hearing heard how she had cost emergency services nearly £1m after they had rescued her 50 times. Ms Dallamura moved to live with relatives in Hove in September last year. But she returned to Aberystwyth, where she once lived, on 20 February to try to persuade magistrates to lift the Asbo which ba…

A fantasist stole thousands from his girlfriend after duping her into believing he was an MI5 secret agent sent to protect her from being poisoned by her boss. By Stephen Adams Last Updated: 2:53PM GMT 18 Feb 2009 Whisky shop salesman Wayne Gouveia cheated Leanne McCarthy of £14,000 after convincing her that her jeweller boss was about to poison her with anthrax powder in her mail. He even made the 21-year-old jeweller's assistant sign the Official Secrets Act to keep up the pretence that he was a James Bond-style secret agent. Miss McCarthy was taken in by Gouveia's story when they worked in shops in Turl Street, Oxford. After Gouveia, 25, pleaded guilty to thre…

A nurse was showered with gifts after she and her boyfriend stole £23,500 by stealing from eBay customers, a court heard Louise Gregory, 27, along with then-boyfriend Jason Hart took the money from at least 28 buyers in Britain and across the world but the goods were never delivered, Bolton Crown Court was told. They included the "sale" of 20 Xbox consoles worth a total of £5,000, mobile phones, watches, and tickets to Test Matches, the Rugby World Cup, Ryder Cup and pop concerts. Unemployed Hart, who the jury heard had already admitted fraud, bought the couple a holiday, splashed out £2,300 on a car for his girlfriend and gave her gifts for her house. But after he…
