Britain's most senior policeman has led dawn raids to find a burglary suspect, only to find he was already in custody. Eighty officers and a police helicopter took part in the south London and Surrey raids led by Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson. But the suspect was already being held over an alleged break-in at a house in Kingston, south-west London. Sir Paul said he was "not the least bit embarrassed". "I am delighted that officers made an arrest," he said. The Tuesday morning raids aimed to find the suspected handler of a gang of burglars accused of targeting properties in south London and the Home Counties. Officers swooped on seven addre…

Fritzel has now changed his plea to guilty on all counts after video testimony from his daughter. Initially he partially pleaded to the charges and was adamant about that, along with his defence team. Im not going to post the who story, but the link is http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7949967.stm Anyway, my point is............ Im sure weve heard it many times when a particularly serious case comes into the media spotlight. This one, Rhys Jones, Huntley etc etc......"How can someone defend those people". Well, I guess everyone is entitled to fair legal support and guidance, its one of the things that made the UK the place it is. However, it got me thinking. In…

It seems to me that saying the car was aquaplaning is a pretty poor defence. Cars don't aquaplane for no reason, they aquaplane because their idiot drivers drive them at 122mph in driving rain. I don't think I'd drive that fast on a 00 shout in the dry, let alone when I wasn't even responding to anything. I predict a conviction and being dropped from the traffic unit.

''A former Labour MP accused of being drunk and disorderly in a hotel told police they were "pigs" when she was arrested, a court has heard. Helen Clark, 54, of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, denies using threatening words and behaviour and being drunk and disorderly in the Great Northern Hotel, Peterborough, last June. A district judge, sitting at Peterborough Magistrates' Court, was told that she was unhappy after being arrested in September Police said the former Peterborough MP told them: "I'm not going anywhere. I am staying right here." Then she said to officers: "I remember in the Seventies when police were referred to as pigs. That's what you all are, pigs. "L…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7947567.stm Police officers in London should walk the beat on their own and not in pairs, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner has said. I have not had a problem approaching a pair of Officers walking together, i`m not sure why some do. I thought the idea of Officers in pairs was, safty in numbers. Mind you a good reason to have Officers in two`s http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/7946463.stm A new police communication system has been plagued by breakdowns, including during some of the biggest emergencies in Devon and Cornwall. PCSO`s too. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/ma...paul-stephenson

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7936121.stm An influential group of peers have stated that NATO and the EU should be approached to assist the UK with security at the London Olympics in 2012. Do these members of the House of Lords have doubts about our police and armed forces ability to secure these games in the event of a serious terrorist incident? I personally think it is the responsibility of the UK to manage any incident that may happen without resorting to NATO and the EU. Furthermore, could you imagine the countries who have recently held the Olympics resorting to foreign security aid!!

Just wondered what everyones thoughts were on this! I personally like the idea, I think it will be handy for officers on patrol, and from the public view it seems like a great idea as officers will be located at central places...

Police chief demands raid inquiry Babar Ahmad said he had been beaten and dragged by handcuffs The head of the Metropolitan Police has ordered an inquiry into why officers who arrested a terror suspect refused to give evidence at an abuse hearing. Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson's force has agreed to pay £60,000 damages to IT worker Babar Ahmad, 34. The High Court heard arresting officers subjected Mr Ahmad to violent assaults and religious taunts during the raid in Tooting, south-west London, in 2003. The Independent Police Complaints Commission is to investigate. Mr Ahmad's family claims a cover-up has protected the officers involved. Scotland Yard said i…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7950540.stm The Metropolitan Police have agreed to pay £60,000 damages to a man arrested during an anti-terror raid. For that minor bruising, i will happily accept 60,000. not much chance in spending it if he gets his pass into the US, they have no problem in dealing with terror suspects.
