http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/8036388.stm A youth of 17 has been spared a custodial sentence for shining a laser light at a police helicopter as it flew over Birmingham. This story came up sometime back, i cannot find it. "The boy apologised for his actions and was given a 12-month referral order." yup, normal result for in effect attempted murder. :smiley_strop1: :smiley_strop1:

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/whatsnew1.html Safer neighbourhood teams across the country have had little impact, a new report suggests... The findings have been revealed by the Home Office after they conducted their second year of evaluations into neighbourhood policing. Safer Neighbourhood teams were deployed up and down the country and since April 2008 every area across England and Wales has had its own dedicated team, with the main aims being to increase confidence and reduce the fear of crime and anti social behaviour. But within their report, the Home Office has admitted that the most recent results showed that any positive improvements that had been made wer…

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_...icle6452448.ece A stroke victim died after an ambulance driver who had finished his shift drove to his depot to clock off instead of going to hospital. What a strange attitude. If my tacho reads time to clock off, i put on a different driver, not get out and leave passengers stranded mid-motorway.

Link - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...rugs-raids.html One wonders how this info got out or why its come out now if the investiogation is ongoing and has been for over a year. Has the IPCC released the info? Or is it someone from the inside through one of our journalist friends like we have seen on here? Whislt I like the comment in the last paragraph, surely stories like this promote assumptions from the ill educated and anti police sectors we see all too often.

Judge William Hart told Partington, 19, the terms of the curfew meant she had to agree to stay home every night of the week apart from Saturday - the same night she had carried out the drunken attack at a party. At Gloucester Crown Court, Judge Hart sentenced Partington, of New street, Gloucester, to a 12-month community order with supervision and a curfew from 9pm to 7am every day for the next two months except Saturdays. He said: "I give you one day off a week because it is summer and I don't think it is necessarily in your interests for you to be confined to your home every evening of the week for the next two months." Partington had admitted assaulting Kimberley…

Nearly £340,000 a year is being spent on repairing police cars that have been filled with the wrong type of fuel, the Daily Mirror has revealed today. The report went on to say that four police cars every day are being filled with the incorrect fuel leading to an average repair bill of £6500 per week. As you can see, draining tanks, changing plugs and re-filling with the right fuel is not a cheap business. The Bill’s biggest offender for confusing the green and black pumps is the London Metropolitan Police, whose officers managed to confuse themselves 671 times in three years. Humberside is reported as being the country’s most diligent force, having only suffered o…

Peter Fahy, chief constable of Greater Manchester Police, claims Labour's culture of central control has produced a generation of middle and senior managers who are expert administrators but have no instinct on how best to catch criminals. He says: "There are conflicting messages and behaviours from Government and from the small army of people who run the many initiatives which hold us to account. "There is every indication the centre is struggling to overcome its addiction of central control through statistical approaches and one-off initiatives. "It is also inevitable that as we move towards what looks like the end of this Government, but also a political era…

FIVE off-duty police officers were arrested over an alleged assault on a teenager during a night out. Separate investigations have been launched by detectives and officers from GMP's professional standards branch. It is understood the officers became involved in a row with a group of youths on Market Street in Manchester. Some of the group had asked two teenagers to stop urinating in the street. The incident is thought to have turned violent when the off-duty officers revealed they were policemen and one of them produced a warrant card. A 17-year-old was taken to hospital suffering soreness to his ribs and bruising. The teenager, who is thought to have been drunk, made…

Police officers patrolling the streets of Whitby are to be issued with electric stun guns. The Taser guns, which can hit suspects with a 50,000-volt charge, are currently only used by North Yorkshire Police's specialist firearms officers. The force said it expected up to 10 officers to be trained in operating the weapons by the end of the year. Amnesty International said it was concerned about the increasingly widespread use of the weapon in the UK. The pistol-like guns use compressed air to fire two darts that trail a cable back to the handset. Insp Nick Wattan of North Yorkshire Police said the officers would receive extensive training before the guns were depl…
