A formula to beat policing blues The formula aims to increase faith in the police A senior police officer has devised an Einstein-like formula as a way of ensuring people have "faith in the police". Chief constable of Nottinghamshire Police Julia Hodson has come up with the formula as a means of pulling together all the attributes needed to fight crime and win public confidence. It reads CE+CI+CS+VCxC PC. Her bobbies on the beat are encouraged to view the problem of adding Community Engagement (CE) with how officers handle Critical Incidents (CI), Customer Satisfaction (CS) and Volume Crime (VC). Those manning the thin blue line will then see that by multiplyi…

Surrey Police Chief Superintendent Adrian Harper, Divisional Commander for East Surrey division, and West Surrey division’s Superintendent Johnny Johncox have been suspended today (Friday 22 May) for alleged dishonest conduct regarding the avoidance of speeding penalties. The suspensions are as a result of a review carried out by Surrey Police Professional Standards Department into the granting of exemptions to police officers and staff for speeding and red traffic signal offences. While the majority of exemptions were granted for sound operational reasons, the review raised concerns about the exemption applications and approvals within the Force for a very limited num…

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...bbies-beat.html Police could put up to 20,000 more bobbies on the beat within five years by reducing spending on 'barmy projects', lavish buffets and designer sunglasses, a chief constable said yesterday. I agree, and to go one further, take Officers out of cars, put them in coaches. More on this story........ http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/1...ack-on-the-beat Mind you, i saw 14 Officers today in and around Stoke Newington today ad only managed to give out 5 UKPO flyers. :sorry:

Video campaign man avoids prison A man who filmed men meeting for sex in an attempt to stop them visiting a Lincolnshire wood has been spared jail. Colin Haw, 47, of Mayflower Road, Boston, earlier admitted a public order offence for filming one person in June. He said he reported the matter to police but was ignored so he decided to act because families visited the area. Haw was sentenced at Boston Magistrates' Court to four months in prison, suspended for a year and a half and given 200 hours community service. 'Misguided enterprise' Chairman of the bench Pat Walsh rejected an application by Lincolnshire Police for an antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) to be …

A police chief has admitted he was not satisfied officers received enough training to deal with the G20 protests in London last month. Metropolitan Police (Met) Commander Bob Broadhurst told the Commons Home Affairs Committee officers only had two days of crowd control training a year. He said any inappropriate behaviour would have been because of fear. During the protests, newspaper seller Ian Tomlinson, 47, died minutes after he was pushed over by a policeman. Policing plans Met Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson said footage of police allegedly attacking protesters was a "real concern" and needed to be "thoroughly investigated". When asked if it was his view the fo…

Police end sit-down Tamil protest Ten people have been arrested in London for public order offences as police ended a Tamil supporter protest which had blocked roads around Parliament. Initially about 2,000 people had gathered for a sit-down protest over the plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka on a road opposite the Houses of Parliament. The Metropolitan Police said officers had cleared the roads around Parliament Square at about 0015 BST. Ambulance crews said three police and five protesters were taken to hospital. Demonstrations trying to draw attention to the plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka have been taking place in Parliament Square since April. Between 50 and 100…
