Rights groups say the plan is insulting to the ruling that the database in the UK - apart from Scotland - was illegal. Ministers argue the cuts are adequate, but say fewer crimes will be solved. One official estimate suggests there will be 4,500 fewer offences detected on average each year - rising to 26,000 if the proposals are extended to the policies on retaining fingerprints, a…

http://www.polfed.org/mediacenter/0BAEDAD4...BC226F890F6.asp An additional 2,000 police officers over the next three years is urgently needed if the police service is to maintain the current level of service... I would have gone for 30,00, but i have to take their word for it. Any chance the Police will get the 2,000 that is indicated?

Source BBC Good to see ACPO lending some support given the continuing onslaught. I think his key phrase is "We need to make sure we don't condemn the many for the problems created by a few" which applies to both Police Officers as well as protestors. Most protestors were peaceful and most police officers did a good job.

Pc John Dougal had accelerated to 90mph in a 30mph zone when he hit Hayley Adamson, 16, in Newcastle in May, the city's crown court heard. A police driving expert told the court that the patrol officer's speed was "unjustified", but Pc Dougal had claimed he had been driving safely. The car's siren and lights had not been activated at the time, the jury heard. The crash happened on Denton Road in Scotswood on 19 May. The court was told that Pc Dougal was reacting to the Volvo's automatic number plate recognition system, which alerted him …
