http://www.hamhigh.co.uk/content/camden/ha...3A57%3A22%3A553 A COMMUNITY police officer in Hampstead Garden Suburb has been brought to book after making a hoax 999 call to colleagues. The union that represents police officers in Northern Ireland has urged the chief constable to postpone plans to phase out the full-time reserve. Sir Hugh Orde has indicated that he intends to press ahead with a plan to abolish the reserve by March 2011. That date was recommended by the Patten Commission on police reform. There are currently 500 full-time members of the police reserve. During the Troubles, the full-time reservists often carried out the same jobs, and faced the same dangers, as regular police officers. Forty-nine of…

Claims police pensions are being paid to former officers who have died are being investigated by Scotland Yard. An audit has found the families of 12 ex-Metropolitan Police employees may have failed to tell the force of the deaths and continued drawing pensions. Internal auditors said the force blocked payments worth a total of £167,000 in the past financial year. Formal police inquiries could be launched if evidence is found of criminal wrongdoing. Police pensions are among the most generous in the public sector, with previous deals allowing officers to stop work after 30 years service on two thirds of their final salary. The suspected "phantom" payments were d…

The court heard high heels had affected Stallard's Achilles tendon A woman who has to wear high heels for medical reasons has had a community service order lifted. Deborah Stallard, 47, from Paignton in Torquay, was given an 80-hour unpaid work order after being convicted of motoring offences earlier this year. After hearing medical evidence her sentence was changed to a curfew order. Stallard was convicted for failing to stop and report an accident, and failing to provide a breath or blood sample in February. The court …
