The Federation has prompted a personal response from Prime Minister Gordon Brown over its criticisms that PC Yvonne Fletcher’s killer is yet to be brought to justice. Mr Mckeever, chairman of the Police Federation, has made his views clear in the pages of Police magazine (page 12) that he believes it is appalling that her murderer, who shot her dead in cold blood as she tried to police demonstrations outside the Libyan Embassy 25 years ago, should still be walking the streets. He has accused the government of valuing trade with Libya over the need to track down Yvonne’s killer and urged the government to look at their priorities, calling for action. Mr Bro…

An environmental protester who failed to attend court to be sentenced for her part in a demonstration was "taking the mickey", a judge said. Louise Hemmerman was among a group who boarded a train taking fuel to Drax Power Station, North Yorkshire. Judge James Spencer QC was told the 32-year-old, from Leeds, was in Spain working on an environmental project. He issued a warrant against her and gave another protester a 12-month conditional discharge. Leeds Crown Court heard that Oliver Rodker, 40, of Hamilton Road, Manchester, had three previous convictions for taking direct action in connection with the Newbury bypass. No costs or fine was imposed due to his limited fi…

A PENSIONER has appeared in court after she prodded her finger against the chest of a teenager who she claimed had taunted her. Renate Bowling, 71, used her walking frame to get into the dock at Blackpool magistrates court. There, justices were told how the German-born grandmother had survived the Second World War in Berlin, but at the end of hostilities found herself in Communist East Germany. She escaped over the Berlin Wall and then fell in love with and married a British Army Staff sergeant from the Royal Engineers before the couple came to Britain. Yesterday she admitted a charge of assaulting a 17-year -old youth by prodding him with her finger. Originally she …

Crime rates show a divide along geographical lines, with public perceptions at odds with the facts, writes Michael Dee. People perceive crime to be on the up despite falling crime levels across the country, research on the geography of crime in England and Wales by Local Futures shows. The crime figures appear to be down, but no mention of the words THANK YOU TO THE POLICE in the article. :smiley_notworthy: :smiley_notworthy: :smiley_notworthy: :smiley_notworthy:

IPCC sticks to Menezes decision Jean Charles de Menezes was shot dead on a Tube train at Stockwell Investigators say they are standing by their original decision not to recommend disciplining the officers who fatally shot Jean Charles de Menezes. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) reviewed its earlier findings after requests from the 27-year-old Brazilian's family. The review followed the recording of an open verdict at last year's inquest into the 2005 shooting in south London. Police had mistaken the electrician for a suicide bomber. Reacting to the decision, a spokeswoman for the Justice4Jean campaign said it made a "mockery of the inquest'…
