http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/sep/2...e-jungle-calais Police drag away 278 camp dwellers, nearly half of them minors, who had been sleeping rough hoping to stow away on lorries to Britain French Police seem to get away with far more then our Police do here. They seem happy to beat the crap out of some, and no one bats an eyelid. give someone a gentle nudge here, and it`s splashed all over the papers. MAYBE we should take a leaf out of the French Police books.

Parts of England with the largest number of uninsured drivers have been revealed in new research. The worst offenders were in Greater London, Merseyside and Greater Manchester, with 13%, 12% and 10% of vehicles uninsured, the research found. The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), which compensates people in accidents with uninsured drivers, estimates over 1.7m people drove without cover in 2008. The MIB is launching a campaign to warn drivers not to let their cover lapse. The group warned that peop…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinbu...ast/8269326.stm A mother who was charged with assault after smacking her violent teenage daughter has walked free from court in West Lothian. A sensible outcome, but one has to feel for the poor dear with her ""The injuries received were bruising and soreness across the buttock" . Seems such a sweet kid.

A number of homes were targeted in the series of raids. advertisementThe gang's crime spree began earlier this year and they are thought to be linked to thefts of cash at 15 stations in the Glasgow and Lanarkshire areas. Their haul is understood to have amounted to tens of thousands of pounds in just a matter of months. A 20-year-old man was arrested following a raid at a flat in Uist Street, Govan, and a 37…

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/new...ize-mcn-camera/ Cops in an unmarked car dramatically seized an MCN camera after we took their picture in North Wales on Sunday. The officers had been waiting in a lay-by on the A5 secretly watching thousands of riders heading to our meeting in Betws-y-Coed, a protest rally over North Wales Police's heavy-handed treatment of law-abiding motorcyclists. A marked patrol car was positioned further along the same route. When questioned by MCN, the covert officers first claimed to be “monitoring trafficâ€. But when MCN produced a camera they said they were armed response officers and threatened to seize the camera if pictur…

We get these kind of stories very frequently, but I am not sure we've discussed them in any detail on PS.com, perhaps because specials tend not to have very much to do with rape allegation. My first, very general point, about rape conviction figures is simply that rape is often a crime where the only evidence comes from the victim, which is of course on its own unlikely to give sufficient evidence to be certain, beyond all reasonable doubt, that someone is guilty. That in itself gives good reason to think why rape convictions might be so low. Unfortunately the modern world prefers to find prejudice as a reason for a bad result and hence it's very easy for news sources …

I wondered when this would come to light! Still it should buy them some votes in key Labour marginal constituency (Darlington)! Officers in close contact with children or vulnerable adults will have to be cleared by the Independent Safeguarding Authority even though they will have had full criminal record and background checks when they joined the police service. Forces will also have to pay the £64 registration fee in each case, meaning the taxpayer will end up funding an officer’s background check for a second time. The majority of the check carried out by the ISA will be based on the police’s own information and intelligence. The rules emerged as one of the co…

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said there was insufficient evidence to charge anyone after the siege. Mr Saunders threw a letter addressed to his wife from his window during the 6 May 2008 siege. Negligence considered Charges of murder, attempted murder and manslaughter were conside…
