It's hard to believe this sort of thing can be allowed to go on in the UK, although seemingly it won't be a problem anymore. I remember a few years back watching a police documentary, they featured an old man who had been ripped off. He was complaining to a policeman outside, who simply stated it was within the law as it was listed as a 'service charge' on the 'menu' on display outside the premises.

The two vehicles crashed at high speed in Middlesbrough in February 2006, as they were answering separate 999 calls. But after a challenge by Cleveland's chief constable, the Court of Appeal said the police officer was blameless. The ruling could …

A senior police officer in Derbyshire has offered an "unreserved" apology after more than 100 bottles of urine were left near a public footpath. Officers discovered the bottles at a house at Waingroves, near Codnor, during an arrest. They were placed in a nearby field for collection on 27 September but not picked up until some time later. Supt Gary Parkin said the bottles posed a problem and should not have been left at the scene. Mr Parkin said: "I would like to make a public apology to all the reside…

A judge has been criticised for allowing a 16-year-old rapist to walk free, eight days before he sexually assaulted a five-year-old boy. Judge Adrian Smith only gave the youth a community order for raping a boy, seven, in Tameside, Greater Manchester. He considered the victim's family, who forgave the attacker because of their Christian beliefs, when sentencing. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has lodged an appeal against the sentence on the grounds it was too lenient. A CPS spokesman said: "It is rare to lodge these kind of sentence appeals with the attorney general, but we felt very strongly about this case. "We appealed two days after he received his sentence,…

Source A boy of ten was knocked down and left to die in front of his sister by a driver and his passengers who then fled. Sean Hamilton was struck by the blue Ford Transit van as he crossed a busy road on his way home from the cinema. The youngster, a keen footballer, was propelled into the air by the force of the collision, as his sister Stephanie watched in horror. As he lay fatally injured in the middle of the road, the driver and the other men in the van ran off. Five men aged between 16 and 22 were today arrested in connection with the death. Sean’s family were too distressed to comment last night. But a card signed by them, stuck to a lamppost yards from w…

Right, I've just had this story shown to me: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/6197652/Si...unal-hears.html Just reading the link should give you a pretty good idea of what it is about. I should stress that I am not a serving member of a police force (or Service, as I think it is these days), but I would guess from the story that it was public order training. Presumably if the officer had not removed his turban and then sustained injuries during the training exercise then the force in question could be liable. Similarly, wearing flammable gel on your beard when attending training that involves petrol bombs does not seem to be a sensible move. Whilst, of course, we mu…
