http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...g-service.html# More than four out of five police forces have fallen short of delivering a landmark Government promise on frontline standards, according to an official report. Inspectors found 35 out of 43 forces in England and Wales need to work harder to meet the basic principles of the so-called Policing Pledge. This included doing more to keep victims up to date on the progress of their inquiries and support dissatisfied members of the public. Inspectors found some police stations were not open when advertised, while one force abandoned 17% of non-emergency calls in a week after passing them to other departments. Force…

The public have ' unrealistic expectations' that police will put themselves in danger to protect ordinary people, according to new safety guidelines for officers. The Health and Safety Executive caused outrage by declaring that officers confronted with dangerous situations-while fighting crime or trying to guard the public 'may choose not to put themselves at unreasonable risk'. Its guidance published yesterday firmly plays down the need for officers to show bravery in the course of their duty if they make a 'personal choice' not to. It states: 'There is often an unrealistic public expectation that officers and staff will put themselves at risk to protect the public.'…

Paperwork up and time partolling down....its a sham!! We are always promised cuts but with how accountable we are how can we change this...its all risk assesments and backside covering forms that take all the time.

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_3513608.html?menu= Police officers who risk their lives to protect the public will not face prosecution for breaking health and safety laws, under new rules. Looks like the clock has been turned back several years.

See here. So when (I don't belive it's "if") the Tories win the next General Election, those of us in the public sector look set for a pay freeze in 2011. I know there are those who say we were lucky with the 3-year deal, but I have to say I find it an insult that we should have to carry the can for years of Labour financial mismanagement. Dark, dark times ahead methinks. They haven't even started on public sector pensions yet.

Armed police have raided a home in south Belfast. Officers were responding to a call from a member of the public claiming that a man was in possession of what appeared to be a firearm. The alert centred on a terraced home in the Donnybrook Street area, off the Lisburn Road. Armed officers raided the property, however a spokesman for the PSNI confirmed that nothing suspicious was recovered and no arrests were made. Meanwhile in a separate incident part of the Donegall Road in south Belfast was closed to traffic because of a security alert. Police were responding to reports that a suspicious object had been discovered in Coolfin Street…
