Most British police forces will be equipped with smartphones by March 2010, according to the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA). The phones enable officers to access databases, such as the Police National Computer, and receive briefings that would normally only be available from within stations. The UK government has provided £80m o…

http://www.expressandstar.com/2009/10/16/b...aperwork-error/ Brawl case dropped in paperwork error It was bureaucracy at its finest – the case against five men accused of starting a bar brawl was dropped at Walsall Magistrates Court because the Crown Prosecution Service, CPS, had spent six months getting the paperwork together and still not done the photocopying. http://200weeks.police999.com/archives/2124 I am guessing this does not happen to often.

Thousands of teenagers had a total of 5,171 litres of alcohol confiscated in a summer crackdown on binge drinking, the government has said. As part of a £1.4m campaign, more than 3,500 youngsters in 69 "priority areas" of England were stopped between July and September. Also, more than 1,800 parents were informed and more than 18,000 teenagers directed to "positive" activities. The Conservatives said the scheme had made no real difference to the problem. However children's minister Dawn Primarolo said the campaign was a "success story". In June, Children's Secretary Ed Balls announced that 69 youth crime priority areas would be given a share of extra cash to hel…
