Persistent criminals could escape trial under new CPS guidelines Persistent criminals could escape punishment even when there is overwhelming evidence against them under new plans allowing prosecutors to overlook minor offences, senior lawyers have warned. Richard Edwards and Christopher Hope Hundreds of offenders may escape charges because court action would not be deemed proportionate to their crimes, under guidelines that set out the most significant changes to prosecution principles in 90 years. The proposals are intended to encourage common sense to be used in the justice system for example, forgiving a householder accused of assault when…

A senior officer with Norfolk's special constabulary has been suspended from duty after an alleged attempt to cover up his behaviour inside a city pub. Acting Specials Chief Inspector Dean Saxton, who is also a civilian worker with the force, is still being investigated following an incident in July. It is claimed trouble flared when the landlord of the pub, which has not been identified, complained about Saxton's “inappropriate behaviour†after he was caught in a compromising position. A police source said he “caused a stink†as he was ejected from the venue. A week later, on the day of the Lord Mayor's Procession, the 30-year-old is said to have returned to th…

Traumatised by a sex attack in a park, a teenage girl was at least comforted by the likelihood the man would be identified by DNA. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...l#ixzz0UZJALQPn Not the usual kind of story that i place up, but brought to my attention by a VIP on this site. May i suggest this piece of reporting from the Mail is there must be more to this story. I give you the http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/4688...ford_DNA_test_/ Police tell attack victim: "We can't afford DNA test" The comments underneath tells us a lot about the unthinking public out there. The chief inspector of constabulary says some police are failing to class all acts of violence as crimes. The watchdog reviewed decisions by officers to class some reports of violence and assault as "no crime". It found that more than a third of the cases from the sample of 479 incidents had been wrongly categorised as not warranting further investigation. Denis O'Connor, the chief inspector, said the findings meant some victims had not got the service they deserved. 'Cause for concern' He said Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) would be launching a major review next year into how the forces are recording serious violence to establish whether the findi…
