http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-12159581 Idiot. His life thrown away in a moment of madness. Still he will have plenty time to reflect on this when he is inside. Considering he could have killed someone by doing what he did I would have hoped for a bit of a longer sentence. I suppose it still sends out a warning to those thinking of ruining a peaceful protest by using violence.

Your thoughts? BBC states this is part of Kenneth Clarke's plans to reduce the prison population by 3000 that were announced back in December. Although its understansable to try and look for cost cutting measures, reducing the overall size of the prison body though must lead to a change in sentancing guidance....more community sentences? Events will be held in 34 venues across England with more than 14,000 athletes from 205 nations taking part. Speaking at the new National Olympic Coordination Centre at New Scotland Yard, Mr Allison said plans for the Olympics were being revised daily. "Let's not …

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-12174563 I think in this case from what I have read it was the right decision to prosecute. Its not the fact that a snowball was thrown but the meaning behind it. Whilst the defence may want to argue it was not a big deal and a waste of time prosecuting I tend to think otherwise. If I was just walking down the road in uniform (or even in no uniform) and someone threw a snowball at me for no apparent reason I would not be impressed. If we then add that the uniform of a PCSO means something then it makes sense for it not to be dismissed lightly - whilst the actual event is no big deal it is the meaning behind it based on the…

Police swooped on a suspected cannabis factory at a house in Bradford - only to find the suspicious heat source was for two guinea pigs. Simon, or possibly Kenny, yesterday. Officers arrived last week after the West Yorkshire Police helicopter detected a hotspot on the roof of the garage in Huddersfield Road, Odsal. A hotspot is often a sign of specialist heating systems used to grow cannabis. Police have apologised for any distress the raid caused to the guinea pigs' owner, 42-year-old Pam Hardcastle. Mrs Hardcastle, a learning mentor at Bradford Moor primary school, said: "On Wednesday I'd gone to work and got a call from my mum who said you need to come home. "…

I can foresee a scenario much like Ian Huntley, where Sky interview the murderer. In short the nasty may have already been on Sky new…

If you ignore the familiar anti-police undertone of this Daily Mail article, about "Judge Dredd" officers "hauling" a semi-retired gentleman to court, it does raise an interesting question which I've thought about many a time. Is it a civic duty for someone to warn other motorists that a speed trap is present, meaning that the area is most likely hazardous for driving anyway? Or is it just an opportunity for motorists who ordinarily would have been speeding, to duck out of a fine? My personal opinion is the latter. The old adage goes that if you aren't speeding you have nothing to worry about. What does everyone else think?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-12162121 The death of an 82-year-old woman has led Wiltshire Police to set up a call handling policy. The police watchdog found the force's response to a call for concern about Iris Hacker before her death was below an acceptable standard. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) was called by a friend of Mrs Hacker at 2220 GMT on 28 January last year. Officers attended her home at 0715 the next day and found her seriously ill. Mrs Hacker was taken to the Great Western Hospital, Swindon, but died on 31 January. IPCC Commissioner Rebecca Marsh said: "While the medical evidence shows that Mrs Hacker would proba…

http://inmytrends.com/met-chief-attacks-rise-of-the-police-in-black-shirts.htm Britain’s most senior policeman has launched a stinging attack on the ‘paramilitary style’ uniforms being worn by many forces. Sir Paul Stephenson, Commissioner of the Met, spoke out against the all-black kit favoured by an increasing number of constabularies. Black shirts. Can we expect the Police to spend huge amounts of money in order for a shirt change?
