Hi everyone, so basically I made it to the final stages of the recruitment phase for Suffolk police. Il bullet what happened in a timeline following the medical. 1) Had the medical with nurse passed everything with flying colours but because of my history with epilepsy they had to refer me to the force doctor for sign off (final sign off before I'm in). 2) Met the force doctor he advises me that because of my history he will recommend me to the recruitment panel I'm not recommended for employment, this is because I had my last seizure in Dec 2015, before that was March 2009 (1 seizure in 8 years). Ive had six in total from the age of 13 (the first 5 all clo…

At approximately 22:35hrs on Thursday, 16 July, two Special Constables attempted to speak with two males in Winchester Road, Feltham. The males made off from police, one on foot and the other on a bicycle. They were pursued into Exeter Road where one of them was witnessed attempting to discard an item. As an officer attempted to detain the youth, he discharged a firearm in the direction of the officer. A 22-year-old male officer sustained minor injuries whilst he restrained the suspect; these were not caused by the firearm. His 26-year old colleague was not injuried. A firearm was recovered at the scene; at this stage it is believed to be an air weapon although it aw…

Suffolk Constabulary figures show that on March 31, 2014, it had the equivalent of 1,221 full-time officers. By the end of March 2015 the number had dropped to 1,140, equating to 81 less posts (a decrease of 6.7%). The decline was a result of Suffolk Constabulary’s pressing need to make £16.4million of savings by 2018. The ever-increasing scale of cuts required was illustrated in January when that figure was re-adjusted upwards to £20.5m by 2020. Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore said the rate of police officer decline will be slowed in the next year with only nine full-time posts scheduled to be lost. However, there is currently a recruitment freeze a…

Proposals to toughen up the basic police fitness test are coming under criticism for being too hard for many officers. A recommendation in the 2012 Winsor report on the future of policing called for more rigorous exercises which test endurance and strength. Currently, the annual mandatory test is the traditional timed bleep test - running to and fro on a 15-metre track up to a certain level. A heavy bag must be dragged and agility and balance is also tested It is often described as being too easy because it has a 97% pass rate. A former detective superintendent with Suffolk Police, Chris Mayhew, agrees the test needs to change to ensure police officers are up to thei…
