Hello Suffolk. I'm currently a special with Leicestershire, but will soon be moving to Ipswich to start a new job - I'm looking at transferring to Suffolk at the moment. Thought I would drop by and say "Hi". If any of you transferred from another force it would be good to know of your experience - how straightforward it was etc. Thanks

Hi there, A friend of mine from primary school who's father served with Suffolk Constabulary gave me a cap badge and epaulette badge when I was about 12. This was about 1989 ish. I was just wondering if they are still worn on the epaulettes. I still collect cap badges, in fact this may have started me off! If anyone can help with regard to the dates regarding older style of badges, specifically the dates when they were issued/used it would be much appreciated. I am trying to concentrate on Suffolk Constabulary at the moment. I tend to do this with one force, collect all the badges/patches I can and then move onto another. I have about 4 different variations of the cap ba…

Hello all, As the title suggests I have applied and been successful to Suffolk Constabulary (as a Special) and am currently set to take my fitness test and start my training in April, I cam across this forum while reading more about the position and thought it would be useful not only prior to my training but also throughout and post-training. Upon completing training I hope to be on duty around my local area (Newmarket) but I was also wondering what the likelihood of being asked, or even allowed, to work in areas such as Mildenhall and Bury St Edmunds? Is it something that can be decided on a certain day whether a certain area is in need or are the area's o…

Does this show vision or a lack of understanding of how Specials work and the demands of certain roles ? http://www.eadt.co.uk/news/suffolk_volunteer_police_officers_could_work_undercover_or_join_detectives_under_new_plans_for_the_county_s_constabulary_1_1831119

Hi, I'm new to the forum :D I am currently going through the LENGTHY recruitment process with Suffolk. With this being my first application and having no experience as a PSCO or Special, I was delighted when I was informed that I passed my Assessment Centre in September with a score of 68%. I am now awaiting a date for my Final Interview. I was just wondering whether there is anyone else currently in the process, if so at which stage?

http://www.suffolk-pcc.gov.uk/decisions/4-2013 The Constabulary currently has 307 specials, over 450 volunteers and 25 joint funded PCSOs. Special constables perform an increasingly important role in policing. They increase organisational resilience and their additional skills and experience are invaluable. Becoming a special constable also supports the personal ambitions and development needs of our special constables, particularly if they aspire to join the regular police force. I believe Special Constables and other volunteers should be utilised more innovatively and we will investigate ways of achieving this. How can we be used more innovatively ? discuss. In gene…

Hi All, Just purchased some boots ready for my training on Friday. Had a quick search of the forum and just wanted to clarify the situation regarding boot allowance as it has not been asked recently. Do we still get it, if so how much? And how is this paid, once a year? I'm assuming i should keep receipts? Thanks!

We should probably pay a bit of interest in this, as I’m sure their decision will effect us in some way or other. I can’t find a great deal of information on the candidates, but I’m slightly uncomfortable by some of their comments and views. The second thing that concerns me is mixing politics with policing, as some of the candidates have a political alliance. The 3rd point is ONLY 3 candidates.

So i've had an eventful weekend as extra preparation for my assessment centre! I did an observations shift with Newmarket Specials on Friday. Just so happened they were involved in a plain clothes drugs operation using a passive drugs dog in the town centre with the local SNT. When the handler got a positive indication, the officers following were radioed and asked to perform a search. Stemming from one of these searches, an arrest was made and we later executed a Section 18 PACE warrant and searched a property for further drugs. I was on duty with them from 19:00 - 02:30. Found it really interesting and enjoyable and i was told that the specials are a big part of the ma…
