A very well presented accounting of events, sensitively done, which answers quite a few questions. I hope that it eases the minds of the families. http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/news-nouvelles/2009/2009-01-30-mayerthorpe-eng.htm Batman27362009-02-19 23:03:44

A S.F. Police Colleague friend, recently, forwarded this news clip to me. The clip shows a senior S.F. Police Officer speaking out against Political Correctness, the Media and defending one of his own street cops. This regular patrol officer, had guts, to choose to take on someone, who was a real public danger.. (In a single crewed car too!) We need far more of this type of speech, boldness and openess to speak out. Although the following news clip link is from 2006, I feel that it is spot on target, for today. Love those Straight talking West Coast people...(I am heading back to S.F in May.) http://mfile.akamai.com/12948/wmv/vod.ibsys.com/2006/0728/9…

I really enjoyed this news item, which was sent to me by one of my daughters who saw this in the L.A. Times. We need remedies such as this in the U.K., but it might not get approved here. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-music-punishment21-2009jan21,0,1887999.story Batman27362009-01-25 22:06:12

A friend today forwarded a Globe and Mail newspaper article of January 1 2009, written by columnist Andre Picard, praising and showing the compassionate and very human side of the Police. "Officers mete out more compassion than Bullets." http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20090101.wlpicard01/BNStory/specialScienceandHealth/home Batman27362009-01-04 19:45:32

I'm aware that serving uk police officers used to be able to join the RCMP without any real difficulty in days gone by. I was just wondering if UK officers can still join the RCMP, as I've noticed that canadian citizenship now seems to be a requirement. Is this requirement waived for uk officers? Also if uk officers are no longer allowed to join up, does anyone know the specific reasons? Lastly is anyone aware of any schemes where uk officers can work with the RCMP in canada for a year or so?

The RCMP has today announced that it is withdrawing from service 24 Taser MODEL X-26 units, because of safety concerns. These particular units have been in use since 2006. Conducted Energy Weapons will be subjected to rigorous further re-testing. Recent Independent lab testing has indicated that some of these models have generated electrical currents above the manufacturers specifications and accepted 15% variance. http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/ The item should be available under the "News" section. Just a question. In American Cop movies or TV series, when the 'Internal Affairs' of a police force are investigating 'corrupt officers', these films give the impression that rank and file Officers regard those who work for Internal Affairs as ... 'something naty that you stand in -- Shoe Flies!' Is this a true representation of how US Police Officers regard their colleagues who happen to work for Internal Affairs? The other question that puzzles me are the investigators who work for the DA's Office. Are they Police Officers with powers of arrest, or are they Special Investigators who happen to be ex or retired Officers, but who still retain arrest powers when carr…

Hi, Im a British police officer with Essex police and I'm traveling out to Houston,Texas for a week in October. I have tried to arrange a number of visits to see different police departments and specialist sections while I'm away but have only had a reply from one force. I have also tried to get access to Officer.com to post a request on their forum, but it has been four days and they still havent activated my account for posting. If you can help in any way I would appriciate it.
