People who try to avoid paying court fines across England & Wales will be targeted in a month-long campaign launched by Her Majesty's Courts Service (HMCS) today. Operation Crackdown will see HMCS Court Enforcement Officers (CEOs) and local police in London engaging in a series of blitzes on offenders' homes to chase up repayments. Approved Enforcement Agencies will also be issued with warrants to confiscate property. Where necessary, those who refuse to co-operate will be arrested. Court time will be set aside to deal specifically with fine dodgers. Dave Weston, HMCS Area Director for London Central and South, said: "Our message to fine dodgers is clear: p…

In the middle of completely refurbishing his five-bedroom house, Connan Gupta felt he deserved a week off. It is a decision he is now regretting because 15 squatters took advantage of his short absence to occupy the £700,000 property. The jobless Italians changed the locks and have taken up residence along with their three dogs and two cats. They claim the fact they cannot afford to rent gives them the right to take over the Victorian property in Camberwell, South-East London. Police are powerless to intervene because squatting is a civil rather than criminal offence. Mr Gupta, a 40-year-old hotelier, has been forced to seek alternative accommodation and instruc…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-11624253 Heard this on the main BBC news earlier, my actual reaction was 'is this newsworthy?'. I don't believe I actually care that it was shot. I like my fishing but don't care for other forms of hunting.
