Greater Manchester Police have decided that a Special Constable when at court as a defendant is not on duty. This means that any Special Constable in Manchester who has the misfortune to try and defend themselves against any criminal allegations arising solely out of actions whilst engaged on duty as a Special Constable whether spurious or proven will not be able to claim expenses or loss of earnings for the duration of the trial. However long that may be even if the trial were to last weeks or months!!! It is unlikely that any employer is likely to make up the loss of earnings so it would seem that a Special Constable could be significantly disadvantaged as a result and…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10220974 Derrick Bird, who shot dead 12 people in Cumbria, had held a firearms licence for 20 years. The taxi driver - who also injured 11 others before turning the gun on himself - had a shotgun certificate and a firearms licence for weapons for pest control and to go clay pigeon shooting. In the official police review of the tragedy, the country's top firearms licensing officer has said that Bird fulfilled the necessary requirements for issuing the licences. But are there areas left that could be further tightened? The UK has some of the toughest gun control laws in the world. If you want to own…

It just looks odd I feel, perhaps it's becuase the bowlers collect water when it rains? Episode was very good, nice execution of s17 PACE to save life or limb and a great example of Breach of the peace. Not sure on the force policy that every domestic one partner has to leave, is that quite popular with different forces now? As it makes it easier for an arrest, partner comes back and gets nicked for breach of the peace.

As a result of a thread in one of the Force Specific forums I've checked with the Association of Insurance Brokers and the Home Office about our private car insurance; Reply from the AIB; I'm still waiting for a reply from the Home Office, but the above should hopefully make things a touch clearer. (MODS: Can this be stickied?)

Checked my Surrey email tonight, and there was an email advising anyone what to do for this scam. A company post a note through letterbox saying missed delivery etc, the number begins with 03 As soon as you call that number the first 5seconds costs you around £250.

Is it only 'marked' police vehicles that can pull over / stop motorists? Had a conversation with a colleague at work today who insisted it was (Urban Myth?). I mentioned 'Road Wars' & the featured TVP pro-active teams who seem to patrol in unmarked vehicles and carry out sop checks amongst other things. Discussion ensued re: 'Well how do I know they are really the police'? Any thoughts or clarification appreciated.

Afternoon all, I work in a rather rough Secondary school, and today we had an abusive MOP shouting through windows and wanting to fight with a member of staff. He tried to gain entry to the school and was politly told to SOD OFF. He has stated "He will return". The male was swearing and stating he would cause harm to the teacher. I believe the police have been informed, however would any of you consider his actions worthy of arrest, perhaps Sec5 POA, or a 4a Harrasment, Alarm, distress, or is the any other grounds or powers that could be used. Is the a school premises power I am not aware of. Does school premises class as a public place, or even dwelling. To be honest…

I am wondering: what do people have in use for the carriage of all our lovely tickets and other forms?

I can remember seeing a raid on a police program a little while ago where they went up into the bedroom and there was a enormous rat sat in one of their beds that one of the people were sleeping in - think it was also surrounded with excrement! Anyone remember which program this was? Trying to find the clip on youtube! It really was hideous! Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but it happened in the UK and involved the Police so - may loosely belong here
