General Policing Discussions

If my memory serves me correctly in the past there has been successful 'schemes' where companies/grants have been obtained to provide a vehicle to the Special Constabulary. I understand in these economic times these sort of schemes are probably rare, however I would appreciate people contacting me with any details if you have been part of scheme/know about a scheme and how it worked? I just wanted to thank you all for the last near week here, and all I have learned. Where I was raised - having 'good relations' with the police was not always encouraged, possible, if even at all - for a variety of reasons. They were never to be trusted. Not another Brit Cops show!

I'm shortly approaching the 5 yr mark and was prompted by another forum member to post! I"ve seen a lot of changes in 5 yrs, and some a bit harder to adjust to and others fantastic. I think the specials is an invaluable life tool, which I use in my nursing career (confidence it gives you to speak up!) So to those first people whom I emailed asking for help with interview advice- 'David' a huge big thanks. Hi all, I'm new to the forum and start training to be a special in February. I currently work in a secondary school as an IT technician and I just wanted to know if any serving or ex-specials use/used their role as a special to expand what they already do at work? For example, I was thinking I would put myself forward to deal with truancies and crime committed at our school and do a few one to one or group discussions about crime (and hopefully get paid more to do it as it's way out of my current pay scale and job role!). I'm basing this on Wiltshire because that where I'm based, but I guess it would follow on wherever. Wiltshire police have 1360 police. Assuming even distribution of officers over an average 30 years service, would be 45 police in each 'year'. Wiltshire police have stated that are going to lose 150 officers over the next 5 years (and similar numbers of police staff). By my fag packet maths that is approximately 30 officers a year, so there is a need to still recruit 15 officers per year to allow for the new blood to come through, gain IPS, get experience and maintain diversity amongst the ranks. When I look at this video I think it's hard to tell what is really happening as we have no sound. To me it looks like the "bashing his head on the ground" is merely an attempt to restrain his head whilst he struggles against it. The rubbing his head against the ground appears to be done not by the officer but the Lance Corporal himself. Are their still visibly armed police in London? Our police in Nz are looking at more acess to firearms, with having pistols in safes in the cars so they can where them if needed at a job. One of the complaints is this will ruin our unarmed police status that we have enjoyed for so long. I pointed out to eone of the protestors that the UK has a generally unarmed police service, yet you still see a lot fo cops in London carrying firearms. I also noted that ARVs often do traffic enforcement when not at armed incidents, and were visibly armed when dealing with traffic offenders. I appreciate this is a news item but I feel that the matter is worthy of some General Discussion and may stimulate debate. All police community support officers in one force were told by their chief constable yesterday that they may lose their jobs next year due to "a lack of clarity" on funding. Lancashire Constabulary said it had decided to start formal talks with trade unions over the future of its 427 PCSOs. The force needs to save £50m over four years in the wake of the spending review. It said that it could not rely on funding being continually provided by central and local government and that the force could not afford to find the £220,000 per week needed. T…
