hi all, just curious, but was watching one of these fly-on-the-wall documentaries the other night and i noticed the custody staff at a custody suite in Edinburgh were kitted out with asp, cuffs and what appeared to be cs spray, yet their polo shirts clearly said 'support staff' and there were none of the standard shoulder numbers. Curious as to what authority they have to carry / use these, thought only warranted officers were allowed asp and cs, though unless its changed i believe the law doesn't specifically outlaw rigid cuffs - if a civilian security officer carried this kit there'd be a quick trip to the courts i suspect, irrespective of how much training he'd had.…

Two males have a parking dispute. As a result one lets the air out of the other persons tyres. Have any offences been committed? There is no damage to the tyre or wheel, the air has simply been let out by pressing in the valve.

If you're self employed and called to court as a Special Constable (Police witness) can you claim for money back for lost income? I.e. having to pay someone to take over any of your duties?

Hi folks I was wondering if you could help me with something. My front number plate has recently been damaged and I need a new one, however I'm working when my local shop is open to make the plates. Last time I bought a plate from them, I had to show the V5 and my DL (as ID). Is it possible to get someone to buy the plate for me, and if so what documents do they need to show? While creating a piece of fiction I describe how a Scottish police officer detains a suspect in connection with the death of a person on a boat which was tied up in a Scottish harbour. Unfortunately, by the time the police officer catches up with his man, he is in England. My question is, what powers of arrest and detention does the police officer have? Does he require assistance from the local police force in England?

I was thinking about this the other day... If someone who knows that a substance is not a controlled drug, but supplies, or attempts to supply it and pass it off as a controlled drug - What's the offence?

Hi there. If someone commits breach of the peace and admits it when the officers question them at the locus - do they take the offender to the police station? Or are there some circumstances where they will charge the person at the locus and then leave without taking the offender with them? (assume the offender is no longer posing any threat to the public) thanks in advance cajar

RAF Police based in Scotland see a car they want to pull over in the base and put their blue lights on, the vehicle fails to stop and leaves the base can they continue and pull the driver over or must it be done my the local Police force?

Are their different forms of assault? My local paper mentioned assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement and wanted any info on this one and if there are any others. I know the definition of assault and self defence and thats about all. [/font] Cheers

Is it same as England&Wales? Perfectly legitimate to use?

I start as a special constable in Strathclyde hopefully in a couple of weeks and only radio training left. I'm confused by section 14. Let me give you an example. After taking numerous statements me and my colleague believe that Del boy of Manchester Road commited a robbery. Is it at this stage we detain him under Section 14? Do we need prior permission or do we just show up at the station with him detained? Are we responsible for interviewing Del boy? If so what further evidence do we need to arrest him? Maybe i'm completely confused and the whole chain of events is wrong!

Forgive me if this has been done before, but I couldn't see a thread when I did a search. I put this in the Scottish section when really it needs to be in both! If someone is caught having a pee in a public place in ENGLAND and they are given a fixed penalty notice with a fine by an officer, what would the fine be? £40, £60? And also, what legislation does this fall into? Does this apply in SCOTLAND, or if not what is the equivalent law? Cheers. *edited, because it was full of grammar errors!

Hi all, this is my first post to this forum so be gentle I know that this question has been done to death over this whole forum, but of all the answers i've read (and thats a lot!!) i still can't find an answer...so i'm hoping somone can help me (or point me ot the bit i didn't read, he he.) It regards the "citizen's arrest". I am familiar with PACE and related statutes, and have worked for a few years as a certificated steward (and incidentally i am considering joining the special constabulary if they will take me (not sure of the eyesight requirements which might let me down, but hey thats a different question...)) I am unsure as to whether s.24A of the PACE act…
