Hello All, I was wondering if someone can answer me a simple question - What is a conviction ? Do you have to be summoned to appear in court to be convicted of something ? Thank you.

Just got a completely panic phone call from my friend saying she thinks she's in trouble...I'm not sure what to answer, so seeing what other people on here think. She was accelerating towards a cross junction, with the traffic lights green, she didn't want to miss them. If goods are returned to a store with the card that they were purchased on, without the card holder present, but with the card holders permission are any laws being broken?

So I was reading this and I noticed this "lodged a special defence of incrimination", a bit of digging seems to show only cases north of the border, so I wondered what it meant. My probably iffy understanding is that essentially you incriminate someone else and therefore it's not you wot dunnit, but them or you are not or less culpable due to their role in the offence. Is that right?

I am doing a paper for uni on domestic violence and wondered if someone could help me with the rules on custody. I have come across some of the threads here but there seems to be some dispute as to whether domestic accused persons are kept in for the next court date. From my reseasch I think (could be wrong) it depends on the circumstances? i.e if they live together, length of relationship etc etc..... Thanks in advance!

Looking for a bit of advice. I live in a street which is full of cars, the local council have a scheme that if residents build their own drive way to get cars off the road then they'll cover the cost of getting the kerbs lowered so having 4 cars we've done that. Any traffic cops on here that can advise me the law regarding the towing of a car with a tow rope. Is this illegal, also does the car being towed have to have an MOT/tax etc. or is it counted as a trailer. Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I am looking for some clarity on the laws regarding towing, I have been on many sites but cannot find a definitive answer (including GOV sites, lots of info on licences though). Is it correct that you cannot tow an empty trailer, which has a gross weight (trailer and maximum permissable load) in excess of the tow vehicles capability, despite the fact that the trailer on its own only weighs 375kgs and the tow cars gross weight (car/contents/trailer/load) is in excess of 3000kgs. Hi, I'm looking for some advice with the following in Scots Law, I did do a search but I didn't find any definitive answers. These are grey areas I'm looking for clarification on. I think I'm right in saying an FPN for BoP, urinating in a public place etc is £40(?), now are traffic endorsable FPN's £60? Unless otherwise stated in the booklet? Is it also 3 penalty points unless otherwise stated? And am I right in saying non-endorsable FPN's are £30 again unless otherwise stated in the booklet?
