Tragic when any incident of this nature happens. At 10.29pm this evening, Saturday January 7, a police vehicle was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in Whitleas Way, South Shields. The area is currently cordoned off while police carry out enquiries. A 52-year-old man was taken to South Tyneside hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the police vehicle and a front seat passenger, two officers, have been taken to hospital - their injuries are not thought to be serious at this time. Officers are in the process of informing the deceased's next of kin. No details of his identity will be released at this time. Anyone who witnessed the collision is a…

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/police-standoff-threatens-to-break-osbornes-pay-cap-6286734.html Downing Street fears a stand-off with police when a report on pay is handed to ministers early this week. There is mounting concern that the report will support awards that threaten to wreck George Osborne's tough stance on public sector wages. "Although anxious to reform police pay, many MPs warn this is not the year to provoke a confrontation with them after the summer riots and increased security demands in the run-up to the Olympics." Someopne seeing some sense?

For most people, the system of civil loss recovery has operated under the radar. The only clues are signs discreetly displayed in stores warning shoplifters they face a claim for compensation if caught. http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8403000/8403379.stm If this idea works in shops, I wonder if it can work when house gets robbed. Police nick thief, thief gets a caution, or sent to court, court hands him a £200,00 fine, house owner gets lawyer and sues the thief for lots more. I suspect this idea could work in all areas of criminal activity, seems great idea to me!!

Really only put this up because I met one Officer from this Force yesterday, what a gentleman!!

The number of citizen's arrests carried out has fallen five-fold in the past decade, according to official figures which show the extent of Britain's "walk-on-by" culture. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/8966738/Citizens-arrests-plummet-due-to-walk-on-by-culture.html Walk on by culture or not wish to get thumped culture? Not sure if the story is a good or bad thing.
