Glamour models and television presenters are among those putting themselves forward as candidates to become crime commissioners, raising fresh questions about the calibre of individuals who will assume control of Britain's police forces at the end of 2012. Katie Price, formerly known as the model Jordan, and the former BBC Crimewatch presenter Nick Ross are among those understood to have expressed an interest in controlling who will be in charge of appointing chief constables and setting budgets and priorities. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/dec/11/katie-price-next-police-chief I am all for fresh ideas and not being to judgemental, but come on Katie Price!!!!!!!!!!!…

Lie detector tests are being used to help officers decide whether to charge suspects in a groundbreaking scheme by a British police force. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/8985812/Police-trialling-lie-detector-tests-in-Britain.html Used in Jeremy Kyle show, says enough to me that they should never be used.

150 officerswarned over Facebook posts One police officer was sacked and more than 150 faced disciplinary action over their behaviour on Facebook in a three-year period, figures have shown. Some used the social networking site to harass ex-partners and ex-colleagues or make comments about officers' wives. Others suggested they had beaten up members of the public during protests. The figures, from 41 of the 43 forces in England and Wales, were obtained by the Press Association under the Freedom of Information Act. Racist comment Officers were also said to have revealed operations, tried to befriend crime victims or posted inappropriate material. One officer serving …

I came across this article in the Lymington Times (Hants). I think the "PCSO" mention is a newspaper typo error, and it should mean the SC. Either that or he saw a PCSO as well as the SC the night before the fatal accident?. There is no online link for this article. A High Court judge has ruled a Dorset Police sergeant should be sacked for trying to cover up that an officer killed in a road crash was having an affair at the time of his death. The ruling brings an end to a 22 year police career of Sgt Neil Salter, who told another officer to destroy evidence that DC Ian Morton, who had a partner, was seeing a PCSO from another force and had been with her the night be…

http://www.bbc.co.uk...eshire-16357423 what a downright stupid person this is to make fake 999 calls when there are people out there who need the 999 service. and it is not there to waste police time.

A DEDICATED cop has been kipping in his van for five years because he cannot afford the petrol to drive home. PC Mark Gatward gets his head down in the back of his rusty vehicle in lay-bys and trucker car parks. He washes in service stations and pub toilets, and sometimes has a shower in a local leisure centre before starting work. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4025421/Hard-up-PC-Mark-Gatward-sleeps-in-van-because-he-cant-afford-petrol-to-get-home.html That is one very strange story. I very much doubt if this Officer were a street cleaner it would turn up the the media. A second hand camper van might be a better try too.

I dont understand this, are they not sentencing 'guidelines', not sentencing 'rules'. Surely the judge can give whatever sentence he deems appropriate (up to the maximum of course)
