Jail for 'stupidest bank robber' A man who tried to hold up a bank that had been closed for years has been jailed by a court in Germany. The man tried to hold up the branch in the northwestern town of Walchum in May with a toy gun and robbed a passer-by. But the branch moved years ago, with only cash machines left. After first demanding a 10,000 euro (£8,600) ransom for the woman, he forced her to withdraw 400 euros and fled. The Bild newspaper branded the man "Germany's stupidest bank robber". The 57-year-old got a seven-year jail sentence for the robbery. The building had been converted into a physiotherapist's practice after the bank had moved out. The man esca…

http://www.guardian....bya?INTCMP=SRCH The Lockerbie disaster memorial: families and lawyers in Scotland are not optimistic that police will unearth new information in Tripoli. Photograph: Murdo Macleod The new Libyan government has given British police the green light to mount fresh investigations into the Lockerbie bombing and the shooting of PC Yvonne Fletcher, the British foreign minister Alistair Burt has said. Maybe now we can get a hold of the thug who did this. Lest we forget.

A FREEZE on appointing new police officers in Derbyshire is set to be lifted three years early after the force made millions of pounds of savings. Replacement officers are set to be hired from April. As part of austerity cuts, the Government ordered the Derbyshire force to save £20 million by 2015. But it has already made £15 million of savings and is now in a position to start recruiting nearly three years ahead of schedule. Police authority chairman Philip Hickson said the scale of the cuts meant it could release more than £1 million from reserves to enable the force to begin recruiting frontline officers again. Mr Hickson said: "It is tremendous news for the co…

Just been watching Channel 4 news and was watching probably the most biased report I've ever seen about Taser. First of all they have an interview with a bloke who apparently had an epileptic fit in a gym and has "no idea" as to why he was shot by police taser (the paramedics said he was getting violent). Then they keep going on about police "electric shock tactics". Then they get to the meat of the story - apparently there's been a 143% increase across the UK. This is blatently flawed - most forces have only issued Taser to a larger number of officers within the last year or so! So of course the number of firings will increase, the more officers who have it, the mor…

This item may be of interest as it was discussed on here awhile back. He has won on appeal and his Force are "surprised and disappointed" and are considering whether to appeal. Nothing like a vote of confidence from your employer! I suspect it may not be the last of this because it may go to disciplinary - unless the reinstatement from the court precludes this of course. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-16007845

I'm not a Mail reader. I can't stand the paper! I don't know much about the law (hopefully will soon - crossing fingers/ toes), but I just wanted opinion as to whether it is normal for the perpetrators of this attack to escape prison ? I'm not really going to read to much into the whole race issue that the Mail loves to fuel the flames of. Rather, I'm interested to hear if this is a common outcome of, what looks like, a vicious attack ? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2070562/Muslim-girl-gang-kicked-Rhea-Page-head-yelling-kill-white-slag-FREED.html

'Less serious murders'. Hmmmm. How exactly do they plan on telling the victims family "sorry, but it wasn't that serious so he only got 3 years".
