The force initially said it had to cut 819 jobs but revised it to 535 after taking into account inflation and a one-off government grant. Chief Constable Sara Thornton said it meant 100 officers would be redeployed to the front line. Shaw robbery victim, 79, has husband's ashes stolen The woman was found on the path in Shaw A 79-year-old woman found unconscious in a Greater Manchester alleyway had a handbag containing her husband's ashes stolen from her. The woman was found in Shaw at midday on Thursday, on a path at the junction of Kershaw Street and Victoria Street. Two teenagers were earlier seen running down the alley towards Elizabeth Grove. A four-year-old girl has been killed in a pile-up on the M6 near Birmingham. Seven people were taken to hospital after the crash involving a lorry and four cars. A woman in the same car as the girl who died was badly hurt. The girl, from Birmingham, was travelling with her family when the crash happened at about 00:30 GMT. West Midlands Police said a 63-year-old man from Sunderland had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The M6 has reopened.
