A man who choked to death while trying to swallow a package of drugs could not have been saved, a sheriff has ruled after a fatal accident inquiry. Andrew Aitken, 41, collapsed in the street in front of passers-by in Irvine, Ayrshire, in August 2010. The FAI was told PC Gordon Young tried to revive the father-of-two, saying: "Please God, son, spit it out." Sheriff Alistair Watson ruled PC Young did all he could and immediately summoned paramedics. The cling-film package on which Mr Aitken choked contained 11 wrapped street deals of heroin. At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, Sheriff Watson praised PC Young and passer-by Jon Gilfillan, who was trained in first aid, saying th…

Cyber bullies and criminals who commit offences online could be banned from the internet under Government plans to beef up 'e-punishments'. Courts will be told to make greater use of computer sanctions when sentencing. Fraudsters could be prevented from selling things online while people who commit sex crimes could have their web access curtailed. Seems a bit of a waste of time.

BBC News To be honest, I actually thought the letter was nicely written. Couple of grammatical and spelling mistakes but overall, I am impressed with the quality of the writing. As for the content, maybe bit risqué but I think he's done a better service by pointing out the obvious to the victim then pretending to be sorry for something he clearly isn't sorry for.

Oh dear... A teenager blew off his fingertips and was left with horrific burns after a bomb he bought on the internet exploded in his hands. Luke Stillman, 16, lost the top of his thumb when a Spanish 81mm mortar that he ordered from a collectors' website turned out to be live. The Northamptonshire teenager was dismantling the device - which he believed was inert - when part of the metal detonator, about the size of a Malteser, exploded in his hands. Luke Stillman, 16, from Northamptonshire, had to have pieces of shrapnel dug out of his wounds by a doctor The Spanish 81mm mortar was supposed to have been deactivated 'We heard a big bang followed by a screa…

I thought some of you may be interested in signing an e-petition which as of today stands at 84,000 signatures. Basically with the govt changing pension calculations from RPI to CPI means that when you draw your pension the rate of inflation protection is lost. The reason the govt say they are switching to CPI is that 70% of pensioners do not pay mortgage costs and, CPI does not contain this whilst RPI does. What the govt are not upfront in mentioning is that there is already a treasury/govt measure with mortgages taken out but, the reason they are not using this is due to the fact it is very similar to the RPI figures - in effect not saving the govt money which CPI wi…
