There is an interesting article on the 'other side' regarding an instruction issued by as yet an unmentioned senior officer in Bedfordshire Police. Apparently when officers go to an incident they have been telling people that the reason they have taken a long time to respond is because of government cuts, lack of boots on the ground, and have been telling people to complain to their MP's. Officers have been told via email that they are not to tell people to complain, probably because ACPO don't want MP's complaining and the Home office want to deflect criticism of the cuts. I don't think that that is a lawful order and if members of the public ask why offi…

People in Bedfordshire could be asked to pay more tax to protect frontline policing. Olly Martins, the force's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), said council tax contributions for policing should rise in the wake of a watchdog report. The report from HM Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) said the force had almost "exhausted the options" for cutting costs. The PCC said people were willing to pay "a little more" to protect services. Bedfordshire Police is one of five forces identified by the HMIC, which could find it hard to cope with future budget cuts. The HMIC recognised the force had "responded well" to financial challenges and already had plans in place to sav…

Police forces would be unable to cope with a repeat of the 2011 riots because of budget cuts, the body representing rank and file officers has warned. Riot police stand in line as fire rages through a building in Tottenham, north London, in 2011. Photo: PA By Rosa Silverman and agencies 9:11AM BST 18 Jul 2013 Steve White, the vice-chairman of the Police Federation, claimed some officers were being forced to work 14 days straight due to numbers being stretched. His comments came ahead of the publication of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary's latest report on the effects of the Government's austerity measures on the police. EDL Marches Costing Taxpayers £10m In Police Patrolling CostsDemonstrations by the English Defence League have cost the British taxpayer more than £10m due to police patrolling, a Freedom of Information request has revealed. West Midlands Police commissioner Bob Jones told the BBC that figures were a cause for concern, having spent more than £500,000 alone on multiple protest policing in Birmingham. "We find it grossly unhelpful that this group is coming to demonstrate here again," he said, ahead of another protest planned for this weekend. "They are extremely unwelcome and it is likely to blow a very significant hole in the police budget," Jones said. Kevin Caroll, …

His wife is commendable for how she has dealt with this. The fact that Foster and Bowling both 22 have lost a life of freedom is enough for me. They can no longer experience the youthful privileges the rest of us who are at liberty can.. Fosters family were reported to have cheered with out any compassion when he was cleared of murder, however, that tune was soon changed when he was swiftly convicted of Manslaughter.

Police officers from Poland, Romania and Lithuania are out on patrol in the UK to help clamp down on criminal gangs from eastern Europe. They have been working alongside British police forces, checking cars and their drivers to see if they are wanted for offences in their home countries. So far they have made over 50 arrests. Jo Black reports. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23339979 Video on web site! Are we hinting that the cuts have placed us in a situation that we no longer have a large enough Police force to help ourselves?
