10:00 01 January 2016 The council is giving park wardens police powers, which they can use in the parks Archant Troublemakers in Havering’s parks will soon feel the long arm of the law if a decision to give wardens police powers is passed. Email this article to a friend To send a link to this page you must be logged in. Plans to arm Parks Protection Officers with batons and give them powers to arrest criminals were green-lit by cabinet members at a town hall meeting two weeks ago. The move would give them permission to use the weapons in self-defence and when dealing with dangerous animals, while also allowing them to demand names and addresses.…

Source - BBC So should the UK be proving training to Saudi Police? Have Reprieve got a point? For me I suppose this boils down to money, if the Saudis are offering a massive sum of money, surely the UK Government will accept?

Interesting replies on the front page of police oracle about the above subject. Ex-PNSI officer says decision to arrest him was disproportionate and unnecessary as he would have voluntarily co-operated fully with any investigation…………….. & 15/12/15: A high-profile Liverpool solicitor won a five-year battle to clear his name after being unlawfully arrested by Merseyside Police. James Parry was awarded £9,000 compensation after a judge found that police wrongfully arrested the solicitor when he voluntarily attended a police station for an interview. council tax bill for policing 2 hours ago David Lloyd said the force had "high levels of reserves" Plans to reduce the council tax bill for policing in Hertfordshire have been put forward by the county's police and crime commissioner. David Lloyd set out the plan in an open letter to residents explaining the force had "high levels of reserves". But Neil Alston, chairman of the county's Police Federation, said he was "staggered" by the suggestion. He said he could not understand asking for less when the number of officers working for the force had been reduced. Conservative Mr Lloyd described his plan for "a small reduction" in the police element of the council tax a…

Belfast Telegraph reporting that one 16th (413) of PSNI officers were sick due to mental health issues in a 12 month period. http://m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/mental-health-issues-sideline-413-psni-officers-sixteenth-of-total-force-took-time-off-because-of-stress-34329674.html From my experience, it's easy to get swamped in the PSNI. There aren't enough civvi staff to perform essential roles, investigations all fall to attending officers with a real reluctance for other departments to get involved (far worse than just the CID "not in my remit mate") and appauling senior officers who have very little interest in officer welfare or making the j…

Please tell me this is a wind up. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/485152/Two-cops-caught-dozing-patrol-car-while-duty THIS is the worrying moment two cops apparently decided to take a snooze in their patrol car while on duty. The pair even had the engine running to make sure they were nice and cosy with the heat ramped up. They hadn't even bothered to park properly as the Hyundai i30 was spotted parked illegally straddling the pavement. And if that wasn't bad enough, the male and female bobbies were so busy having 40 winks they were totally oblivious to the drunken shouting that was going on just feet away outside. Witnesses said they tried to rouse the …

9 minutes ago From the section England Image copyright Thinkstock Image caption The number of arrests by police has fallen by more than 75,000 in a year Police arrested 75,000 fewer people in England and Wales than the previous year, despite a rise in recorded crime. Across the 43 forces there was a 7% average drop in arrests. Sussex recorded the biggest fall in 2014-15 compared with the previous year, 26%. Home Office figures show fewer people arrested almost everywhere, which the Police Federation warned may be down to cuts to force budgets. The biggest drop was in Sussex, where crime rose by 8% over a similar period. Across England and Wales, police forces m…

A police officer has admitted contacting victims of crime for his own sexual purposes. Det Con Michael McMillan, 32, pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to five counts of misconduct in public office. The charges related to him contacting women while working with Merseyside Police's Family Crime Investigation Unit. The detective, who is suspended from duty, is due to be sentenced at the same court on 11 March. His actions are the subject of an investigation by Merseyside Police's anti-corruption unit, which has been managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-35225942
