Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone says he agrees with drivers' complaints that the sport's decision-making process is "obsolete and ill-structured". The 85-year-old has written to the Grand Prix Drivers' Association in response to its own open letter. The letter, seen by BBC Sport, says: "It is not always easy to agree with you but you are correct. The Champions League may feature fewer teams in the group stages under proposals being considered by Uefa. The suggestion is for more knockout rounds, leading to two 'super-league' groups of eight teams - the current format features eight groups of four. A spokesman told the Guardian Uefa was in "constant contact" with clubs but "no concrete proposals" were in place. The current structure is unlikely to change under the present TV rights deal, which runs to the end of 2017-18. Derren Jon Tomlinson was also banned from working with children for life after a court heard his offending was exposed by ‘abhorrent’ still and moving images found on his mobile phone. A Merseyside Police officer was struck and killed by a stolen car during a pursuit. The officer was hit after a red Mitsubishi pick-up vehicle mounted a central reservation along Wallasey Dock North Road, Wallasey, at 02:10 BST. A man has been charged after a police cyclist was struck by a car in London. The officer, who is now recovering at home, was signalling for the car to stop when he was hit in Kennington Park Road, Lambeth on Wednesday afternoon. Leo Gowan, 23, of no fixed address, is accused of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving. He is also charged with having no insurance and failing to stop when directed and is due to appear before Camberwell Green magistrates later. Hill Street, Glasgow A police officer has been injured following the arrest of a man seen carrying two machetes in public. Officers responded to reports of a disturbance in Hill Street in Glasgow city centre on Friday morning.
