    2 hours ago The first dedicated parish constables in Bedfordshire are being brought in to try to reduce the amount of rural crime. PCC Olly Martins has started Operation Salcoats, bringing together special constables and community watch members. Mr Martins said rural communities had been calling for action to cut crime, such as house burglaries, in isolated areas.     A POLICE sergeant from Flintshire has been found dead at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Lee Andrew Johnson, 45, of Cilcain Road, Pantymywn, near Mold, was a patient in the Heddfan psychiatric ward when he was discovered dead on February 13, an inquest opening was told yesterday. Sgt Johnson was an officer with the West Mercia Police based in Oswestry. He leaves a wife Barbara, daughter Elle and son Kane. John Gittins, coroner for North Wales East and Central, told a brief hearing at Ruthin that pathologist Dr Mark Atkinson had given the cause of death as hanging.     A Northamptonshire police officer has been charged with the rape of a 17-year-old girl. PC Declan Gabriel, a 26-year-old local response officer, faces one charge of rape and two counts of sexual assault. He is also accused of misconduct in public office. The offences relate to 21 September last year. Northamptonshire Police said the officer would remain suspended from duty. He is due to appear before Kettering magistrates on 30 March.
