A five-year-old Sussex boy took his parents' car for a drive before crashing it into a wall. Police spend more than a fifth of their time off the beat, according to newly published figures. Inspectors discovered officers and staff are engaged in "support functions" for an average of 22 per cent of their working lives. These include planning, human resources, accounting, training and computing as well as estate and vehicle maintenance. The figures were published by HM Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) as part of a new website - hmic.gov.uk - to analyse the work of forces across England and Wales. A man has admitted illegally importing stun guns after being arrested at Aberdeen Airport. Spencer Henderson, 41, of Fraserburgh, was detained on Monday after arriving on a flight from Bangkok via Amsterdam. He admitted breaching the Customs and Excise Management Act when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday. The UK Border Agency said two stun guns were found in Henderson's luggage. A man jailed for 10 years after his pregnant girlfriend found out he had infected her with HIV is to appeal against his sentence. Mark Devereaux, who also had unprotected sex with other women, had known he had the virus for nine years. His 28-year-old partner, who was pregnant with twins, chose to have them aborted after discovering she had HIV. Devereaux, 41, has lodged an appeal against the length of his sentence, the Scottish Courts Service said. He was working offshore when his partner found a letter in their home, in the north east of Scotland, which said he was HIV positive. Police divers are believed to have recovered a body from a stolen van which plunged into a Fife dockyard. The van, which had been stolen from near the Forth Road Bridge, was being followed by a police vehicle when it fell into Methil docks on Wednesday. Fife Constabulary said the vehicle went into Dock No.3 in Methil after being spotted by officers near South Street. Dive teams from Central Scotland Police were at the scene. It is understood only the driver was inside the vehicle. Central Scotland Police will conduct a review into the circumstances of the incident. A Devon man who stabbed a neighbour's friend in the back and threatened him with a baseball bat in a row over noise has been jailed for 30 months. Daniel Cox confronted neighbours in the flat below in Burridge Road, Torquay, when he himself was in the process of being evicted for playing loud music. Cox, 21, admitted unlawful wounding and possessing an offensive weapon at an earlier hearing at Exeter Crown Court. The judge said the attack, in October, had been premeditated. A company boss has compared British soldiers to paedophiles and drug dealers after refusing a request by a recruitment service to provide jobs for former troops. 11 March, 2010 A SPECIAL constable who faced losing his job after being accused of threatening a young woman in Lerwick town centre last summer was acquitted at the town’s sheriff court on Thursday.
