NOTTS Police has spent around £55,000 producing a free newspaper for every household in the county. Delivery of nearly 500,000 copies of Policing for You, which the force says cost 11p a copy to make, starts on Monday. It contains information about how the force is tackling crime, and working with other organisations and the public. A limited edition was piloted last year in part of Ashfield. Some 15,000 homes received a copy and 1,000 residents were surveyed for their views, 90% saying they thought it was an effective way of providing information and 71%that they felt well informed as a result. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cumbria/8559670.stm Source Road safety bosses say they are stunned after a speed camera caught out more than 5,500 motorists in five weeks. The camera, on the M6 near Carlisle, was installed to protect workers carrying out repairs and is expected to net £168,000 from fines issued so far. A Cumbria Safety Cameras spokesman said he could not understand why so many drivers are ignoring the 50mph limit, which is clearly signposted. Pressure group Safe Speed called the figures "disgusting". The camera was installed between junctions 43 and 44 of the M6 on 29 January and will stay while bridge repairs are carried out.

The way the police in England and Wales deal with complaints of anti-social behaviour has been strongly criticised by the chief inspector of constabulary. His comments came as the inspectorate published "report cards" on the performance of 43 forces. Nottinghamshire and Greater Manchester received the lowest grades http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8560720.stm I know Notts police have been in the news lately but quite suprised about Manchester getting alow grade, what with their recent mass arrests, i would have thought they would be improving

I don't know if this is the right place to post this. Mods can you please move it to the appropriate section. The reason I am posting this information here is because the area this young girl went missing from is predominantly British. I've copied the information below off her website ON NEW YEAR’S DAY 2008, at 10pm, Amy Fitzpatrick said goodbye to her close friend Ashley Rose, with whom she had been babysitting Ashley’s brother at her friend’s house in Mijas Costa. Amy should have arrived at her home on the urbanisation Riviera del Sol in Mijas Costa, near Fuengirola, at about 10:10pm, as it was only a short walk away. But, she never arrived home and has not bee…

A stalker dubbed the 'Facebook Fugitive' murdered a mother he met on the social networking site - just 72 hours after he was freed by police who dismissed him as a 'quiet, mild mannered man'. Unemployed George Appleton, 40, had a history of violence towards women yet when 36-year old Clare Wood begged officers for protection from him she was deemed a low risk, a damning report has found. Even when the former fairground worker told Miss Wood he would have her stabbed and her house burnt down, the investigating officer let him out on bail saying the threats were 'throwaway comments' said 'in the heat of an argument'. Victim: Clare Wood was strangled in her Manchester h…

A former police officer has been jailed for three years for passing secret information to his wife and her drug dealer, in return for drugs and money. Pc Mark Bohannan, 47, from Bexleyheath, south London, shared intelligence details which allowed Syed Imtiaz Ahmed to supply drugs "undetected". Three Labour MPs accused of expenses fraud provoked fresh public outrage today when they made an audacious attempt to avoid sitting in the dock in court. Elliot Morley, David Chaytor and Jim Devine's first appearance before magistrates descended into farce when they sat at the back of the room. They had to be ordered into the dock by District Judge Timothy Workman, who declared it was 'customary' for defendants to sit there. The MPs' barrister then proceeded to insist that they should not be put on trial at all because of parliamentary privilege. They and Tory peer Lord Hanningfield are all charged with false accounting under the Theft Act. All four deny the charges …
