FURY erupted last night over the release of a gunman who killed a cop and wounded two others 36 years ago. </H2>Twisted Egon Von Bulow, now 63, has been cleared for release by Parole Board chiefs despite being said to have a "severe personality disorder". It is thought to be the first time anyone who directly murdered a police officer has been released from jail in Britain. Von Bulow, who shot dead defenceless PC John Schofield in 1974, is believed to be "terrified" at being let out after so long. Shot dead ... PC Schofield His personality disorder is said to have been described in his latest psychiatric assessment. Last night Simon Reed of the Police Federa…

In the 1980s the police were met with the taunt “Maggie Thatcher’s boot boys†when their ranks were deployed to trample the enemy within. The Thatcher Government laid on an overtime bonanza during the miners’ strike from which thousands of Metropolitan Police officers did very nicely. The police were seen as heavy handed in the policing of anti-government protests, from CND marches and anti-apartheid vigils right up to the pitched battles of the 1990 poll tax riots. Baroness Thatcher is still something of a heroine for many officers; she was lauded as the guest of honour last December at the annual dinner for retired Met detectives. But her party, the traditional…

A PANIC-STRICKEN shoplifter bolted from police and on to the live tube tracks at Fulham Broadway station, running down the tunnel and escaping arrest for over two weeks. Terry Thomas and accomplice Adam Ben-Nafaa, both 18, had stolen a pair of iPhones from the o2 shop in Kings Road, Chelsea, before running towards Sloane Square and getting on a bus to Fulham Broadway. A member of the public had followed the thieves out of the store and first called police before alerting the bus driver. Officers were waiting for the pair, and while Ben-Nafaa gave himself up, Thomas sprinted towards the eastbound District Line platform and hurled himself onto the live rails. Stunn…

http://news.independentminds.livejournal.com/6247060.html The apology yesterday came after an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission cleared Dorset Police of mistreating a black motorist, who complained of racial abuse and assault at the hands of an officer. Too little way to late, the damage has been done. This apology i have not found in the national newspapers, nor anywhere else. Jon snow, go wash your mouth out.

A senior prison officer in charge of a wing at a women’s jail has been suspended over allegations he had sex with inmates in return for day-release passes. Police are investigating claims that Russell Thorne, 40, a principal officer at HMP Downview in Surrey, was caught in a cell with a prisoner. Three unnamed wardens have also been suspended over the claims. Mr Thorne, a married father of two who has also served as an acting governor of the prison, is also alleged to have sent a sexually explicit ‘love letter’ to an inmate. He denies the allegations. Sources have told The Mail on Sunday that a ‘sex-for-favours culture’ existed at the prison, which houses o…

The image could have come from the set of a 'slasher' movie: a sinister figure in a clown mask and hooded top brandishing a gruesome, long-bladed hunting knife. The photograph, staring menacingly out from an internet social networking site, seemed to epitomise the culture of lawlessness and anarchy which culminated in the deaths of pensioners Albert and Kath Adams after an arson attack at their home in Rugby. The 'clown', of course, is not a character in a horror film. Behind the mask, we have been told, is Stuart Cunningham, 24, a member of a gang called the Overslade Crew, which takes its name from a notorious sink estate in the Warwickshire market town. Menacing…

leaping out of the back window of a cannabis factory during a police raid, this suspect must have thought he had got the drop on his pursuers. Instead, his spectacularly misjudged escape attempt saw him drop straight into the arms of two officers. Unwilling to accept it clearly wasn't his day, the suspect fought free of their grasp and leapt over the back garden fence. However, his second escape bid didn't fare much better than the first. Ready and waiting: Police are in place to catch the man as he jumps through a window... ... but can't keep him in their grasp as he lands and makes his dash for freedom He was trapped in a cul-de-sac just 500 yards away when a …

A joyrider has walked free from court after killing a police dog and injuring two officers in a road smash while three times over the drink-drive limit. As his 12-month prison sentence was suspended at Newcastle Crown Court, Sean Lawson, 20, shouted ‘Get in!’ Prosecutor Geoff Mason told the court that the trail of destruction started when a VW Passat was rammed by a car in the Benwell area of the city on November 9 last year. As the owner got out to chase two men, others jumped into the man's Passat and drove it away. Later that night, a police officer spotted the stolen car with Lawson driving and, when he tried to pull it over, he put his foot down and accelera…

Scotland's largest police force has become the first in the country to introduce the Taser stun gun. Strathclyde Police began issuing the weapon, which delivers a 50,000-volt electric shock, to specially-trained firearms officers from Monday. Assistant Chief Constable Ian Learmonth said the decision to introduce Tasers followed trials in England. The guns use nitrogen cartridges to fire two barbs which trail copper cable back to the weapon. LINK: BBC News - Strathclyde Police What are your opinions on this delicate matter? Sean
