Police say a 40-year-old post office owner who was found dead in her quiet village store was the victim of a robbery. Officers were called to the shop and post office at Melsonby, North Yorkshire, on Tuesday morning, where the body of Diane Garbutt was found by paramedics. A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police have launched a murder inquiry following a robbery at Melsonby post office." Detectives have issued a description of the offender they said "broke in to the post office and stole a substantial amount of cash". A man was slashed in the face 11 times by robbers as he was feeding his baby son at home. Ricki Hall, with baby Milan and his wife, Zoya Car dealer Ricki Hall, 39, was stabbed so violently that his blood spattered over 10-week-old Milan. The robbers had knocked on the door of his home in Thorpe Astley, Leicester, over the weekend, shouting: "Pizza delivery". Mr Hall opened the door to tell them they had the wrong address but they barged past him into his home, demanding cash and jewellery. There are "no circumstances" in which Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe could be released from prison, Justice Secretary Jack Straw has said. He was answering a question in the Commons from Tory MP Julie Kirkbride on behalf of one of her constituents, a relative of one of Sutcliffe's victims. Sutcliffe, 63, who murdered 13 women across northern England, has begun a legal bid to limit his time in jail. He was given 20 life terms in 1981 for the murders and seven other attacks. A 13-year-old boy who was placed with a foster family raped their three-year-old daughter, a court was told. The teenager was caught sexually abusing the girl on the lounge floor by her horrified mother. Police were called and the boy admitted the offence. A man has been jailed for five years after posting a photo of himself with a gun on Facebook. Police were able to trace Majid Khan through his facebook profile Majid Khan, 27, from Handsworth, Birmingham, was arrested after the picture was reported by a fellow Facebook member. Detectives were then able to trace Khan through his own profile on the social networking site. When officers raided his home they found a blank firing pistol which had been converted to fire 8mm bullets. Khan pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm last month. Two cousins have been jailed for robbing people who responded to fake car adverts they put on Gumtree. Alexander Gould (L) and Richard McCrorie Richard McCrorie and Alexander Gould advertised vehicles on the website and arranged to meet interested parties in Surrey. They insisted that payments for the cars would be cash only. When the unsuspecting customers arrived, the pair would threaten and attack them with guns and metal bars, forcing them to hand over the money. A move stopping Northamptonshire police riding bicycles on patrol until they have a 10-hour lesson has been called health and safety "gone too far". Officers in the Parklands area of Northampton have been issued mountain bikes by the force. A 13-year-old boy has become one of the youngest people in Britain to be put on the sex offenders' register after he admitted raping a three-year-old girl. The little girl's mother caught the teenager assaulting her daughter in the lounge of her Lancashire home last May.
