A DAD who almost ran over a policeman later threatened the same officer with a ten-inch kitchen knife. He had denied dangerous driving, but was found guilty after a trial and received a consecutive sentence of four months in prison, also suspended for two years. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/news/Dad-threatened-stab-police/article-2403438-detail/article.html wow he must be shivering in his boots at that sentence.

"By Ian Dunt The European court of human rights has rejected an attempt by the UK government to appeal a judgment over its stop-and-search powers. The decision means that a January 2010 court judgement which found section 44 of the Terrorism Act to be illegal is final. "This appeal was always doomed," said Isabella Sankey, director of policy for Liberty. "The objectionable policy of broad stop and search without suspicion was wrong in principle and has proven divisive and counterproductive in practice." The original court judgement in the case of Gillan and Quinton v the United Kingdom found that section 44 violated the right to respect for private life guarante…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/10588031.stm Police have said a bomb that exploded on a country road in south Armagh was designed to kill or injure officers. The summer has brought the mindless idiots out onto the streets as usual. However it does supprise me that any threads related to PSNI issues get very little attention on this forum. Had this happened on the mainland, then no doubt there would be a flurry of posted comments. Lets no overlook the extremely tough policing role these officers have to carry out on a daily basis.... Three police officers have been shot during violence in north Belfast. The officers, one a woman, were injured by a masked man firing a shotgun at North Queen Street. One male officer remains in hospital with an arm wound. A total of 27 officers were injured during disturbances - 14 in the New…

Scotland Yard is considering an overhaul of police recruitment to save millions a year in training costs. Under the proposals, future police recruits in London would need to work as volunteer special constables for at least a year before they could apply to become full-time paid Met officers. The move could end the tradition of tutoring new recruits at the world-renowned Hendon Police College. A report will go to the Metropolitan Police Authority next week saying the new scheme could save more than £12 million a year by 2012. The study adds that long-term savings could be even greater because Hendon would no longer be required and the site could generate “signifi…

Steria today announced it has been selected by Cleveland Police Authority as its partner for delivery of the Force’s control room, community justice and back-office functions through a shared service partnership that will deliver £50 million in cashable savings. Steria won the contract, worth £175 million over 10 years, in a competitive bid against Cap Gemini and Reliance. Effective 1 October 2010, the shared services model will be rolled out force-wide, to benefit the force’s 2,200 employees and local community. Under the partnership agreement, Steria will work…

A police officer drove “ludicrously†and “dangerously†as he chased another driver along one of Hampshire’s busiest roads, a court heard. Sergeant Sean Harvey pursued Trevor Dalton for several miles at speeds up to 70mph after he undertook him on the dual carriageway and made an obscene gesture at him. Mr Dalton’s BMW had been in the outside lane of the westbound A31 in the New Forest when Harvey’s silver Fiesta pulled out in front of him to overtake a lorry, causing him to slow down. Mr Dalton told jurors at Guildford Crown Court how he then saw the Fiesta’s hazard lights flashing and when it stayed in the outside lane, Mr Dalton decided to pass it in…

Is they`re any good reason a ten year old would be given a gun licence?

Current police numbers are not "sustainable" in the face of budget cuts, a senior officer will warn later. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/10442823.stm Looks like its going to be an interesting few months / years for all. I cant see how we are going to sustain the service we struggle to provide at the moment. Something will have to give, no idea what that will be. Could we be changing to sensible policing, allowing people to sort their own lives out for a change and letting the other agencies that traditionally run screaming from their remits take some of the weight. probably not. Will it mean cutting back on leaflet drops, high visibility campaigns that dont seem to h…
