A FATHER-of-three being chased by police ended up in plaster after he jumped over a fence - and so did the officer hot on his heels, a court heard. Engineer Nicholas Roberts, 35, had panicked and run off when police tried to stop him at the wheel of his boss's van as he wasn't suppored to be driving it, wasn't insured and had never passed a test. He leapt over the fence, landed awkwardly and fractured his foot, Burnley magistrates heard. PC Mick Higginson, in pursuit close behind, did the same and broke his leg. Both men are now on crutches. Roberts, who had never been in trouble before, was said to be upset and sorry over the officer's in…

A would-be mugger who snatched a woman’s bag got a shock after he was pursued by offenders on Community Payback. The group of offenders were clearing Stoneydown Park in East London, as part of their community punishment, when they were approached by the woman who had been robbed seconds earlier. The offenders then chased the bag-snatcher and managed to get back her handbag, though the suspect was able to get away. Community Payback supervisor Gary Hall, said: 'When I first saw my lads dashing up the road I half-thought they might be doing a runner. 'But in fact they were brilliant and did a real public service and I'm proud of them.' The woman said:…

Police officers are furious after being given a flyer by their bosses showing them how to dress properly.Sussex Police handed out a leaflet complete with pictures of the 'perfect cop' and a 'shabby officer'. The flyer - given to 3,200 officers - tells them 'how to wear' their new uniform, which was rolled out to bobbies in May this year. The new uniform comes complete with zip-fronted 'moisture management shirts' and cargo trousers. The flyer shows a 'prim and proper' officer standing to attention with his arms behind his back in his smart new uniform - complete with a giant tick over his image, signifying that he is wearing the uniform 'correctly'. Good cop, bad cop…

Read the full article here. --- Personally, I'd love to see this in context. "Use an inverted knuckle into the trainee's sternum and drive inward and upward." sounds to me like the heimlech manouvre. "Continue to carry alternate elbow strikes to the young person's ribs until a release is achieved." Uhm, yes, that's the standard way of getting someone to let go of you if they've got someone else in a bear hug. Only the headline one (drive fingers into groin) I can't find any sort of defence for. All the stuff in there is pretty standard self defence. As with everything else, you'd have to keep human rights in mind (with 'PLAN - Proportionate, Legal, Accountable a…

A man allegedly sprayed with CS spray during his arrest in Essex is considering legal action against police after his conviction was quashed. Alan Lethbridge, 29, of Colne Drive, Romford, was found guilty in April of spitting in the face of a paramedic who was trying to tend his head injury. He had been arrested during a night out in Brentwood on 13 September. He won an appeal against his assault conviction at Basildon Crown Court on Friday. A police inquiry was begun into the arrest and two officers suspended pending an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. Anti-depressants Mr Lethbrid…

OK i have recently been taking an interest in becoming a door supervisor/bouncer and was looking through various sites and found this: http://www.cumberland-news.co.uk/news/1.218572 So doormen here can use handcuffs, i have also read that under Scottish law doormen use handcuffs to detain people under citizens arrest and for the police. What do you guys as police officers think of this?

A JUDGE has criticised police for reprimanding a young burglary suspect, instead of putting him before the courts http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/news/Judge-slams-police-reprimanded-young-burglary-suspect/article-2425454-detail/article.html Intresting, if as the Notts Police spokesman said "For someone to be reprimanded, an officer would work with the CPS and several things are taken into consideration, including a person's age, the nature of the offence, if the offence is admitted and their previous convictions" then why is the judge having ago at the Police, it is usually judges getting a hammering for giving lenient sentences, so maybe he has a bee in his bonnet.

A new system for handling firearms seized by Durham Constabulary has been given a clean bill of health by independent auditors. The system was introduced following the arrest of two former officers, Maurice Allen and Damien Cobain, who admitted selling firearms which had been surrendered to the force, for their benefit. The former officers, who resigned earlier this year, were given suspended sentences by a Newcastle Crown Court judge after they admitted misconduct in a public office. Chief Constable Jon Stoddart said: "The disgraceful conduct of two former officers was a sorry chapter in Durham Constabulary's long and proud history. But it's over and we've learnt from i…

The Taser XRep used in the standoff against gunman Raoul Moat in Northumbria is one of a series of less lethal weapons currently being trialled. In a briefing to senior officers in Manchester it was highlighted that the device – which is deployed via a shotgun – has been under examination at the Home Office Scientific Development Branch but has not yet been approved. The deployment of the weapon in Northumberland is currently part of an ongoing IPCC investigation into the circumstances surrounding Moat's death. But at the briefing, it was revealed that other weapons being considered as possible future less lethal options include the TaserX3, a version of the existin…
