http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-11717008 A memorial to a policeman who was murdered in Leeds more than 25 years ago has been vandalised. Sgt John Speed was shot dead in 1984 while going to the aid of a colleague who was injured during a check on two men acting suspiciously. Over the weekend graffiti was daubed on the memorial stone on Kirkgate. Police are treating the vandalism as racial damage because the graffiti resembles a swastika. A 19-year-old man and another man have been arrested. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the men had been released on bail and inquiries were ongoing. Michael Downes, chair of the West Yorkshire Police Federation, des…

Source: BBC news website Nathan was a lovely guy who did nothing to encourage this attack. I didn't know him well, but have mutual friends and four years just doesn't seem justice for taking someone's life. The criminal justice system has let his family and friends down today, my thoughts are with them.

A fraudster who is thought to have made thousands of pounds at casinos across Westminster by cheating at roulette was sentenced to 46 weeks in jail. Iranian-born Bahram Sahami, 37, actively targeted casinos including the Barracuda casino in Baker Street, Marylebone, and the Grosvenor Victoria casino in Edgware Road, Paddington, between March and July 2009. Sahami, who had been barred by all major casino operators nationally for cheating, used at least four false identities to gain access, supported by membership cards or driving licences. Once inside, he would target the game of American Roulette and either cheat by adding or removing chips fro…

A mam who intervened in a fight amoung squabbling children and found himself in court facing charges of kidnap has spoken of his dispair at the authorities' actions. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/8114901/Father-who-faced-kidnap-charges-for-trying-to-keep-the-peace-in-despair-over-authorities-actions.html "Throughout the five court hearings the CPS twice ignored judge Peter Bowers's stunned reaction to the severity of the charge, agreeing only at the last minute to accept a lesser charge. And when Mr Justice Bowers finally threw up his hands in despair saying: ''Can I have a Victor Meldrew moment and say: 'I don't believe it'" before ordering an in…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-11711949 Two police officers are facing disciplinary action over their conduct after a Newcastle teenager was killed by a speeding patrol car. Hayley Adamson, 16, died after being hit by the car driven by Pc John Dougal in May 2008. He was later jailed. Minutes after the fatal crash a dog handler sent to the scene was overheard referring to Hayley as a "scumbag". Northumbria Police said she and another officer, who behaved inappropriately during Dougal's trial, faced action. The Northumbria force expressed "shock and horror" at the behaviour of the officers and said an apology had bee…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-11712178 A police sergeant and his wife have been acquitted of sexually assaulting a woman after the prosecution offered no evidence against them. West Midlands officer Nicholas Clarke, 49, who lives in Worcestershire, was formally acquitted of rape. The prosecution accepted inquiries into a phone text message meant there was no reasonable prospect of conviction. Joanne Clarke was acquitted of sexual assault but has admitted drugs offences and was given a conditional discharge. Clarke and her husband, both aged 49 and living in Rednal, had been due to stand trial at Hereford Crown C…

Not guilty: PC Ian Bruce Police watchdogs have been branded 'incompetent' after the case against a traffic cop involved in a fatal chase was thrown out by a judge. Pc Ian Bruce, 34, was cleared of dangerous driving after just one day of evidence at a trial. He was charged almost a year ago after an Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation into the death of grandad biker Alan Long. The investigation had raised concerns over the high-speed police pursuit. But Pc Bruce was cleared after the judge ruled that an overtaking manoeuvre which formed the basis of the case against him had been 'calculated and safe'. And it emerged Pc Bruce performed the mano…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-11705751 Police have released a Google Street View image of a man which is believed to have been taken at around the time a caravan was stolen in Derbyshire. The white Abbey Adventura caravan went missing from outside a house in Cauldwell Road, Linton, in summer 2009. Its owner checked Google this year and spotted a man parked in the driveway. It is thought the Street View car could have been passing shortly before the theft, and officers want to hear from anyone who recognises the man. The theft took place sometime between 0930 BST and 1400 BST on 5 June. Wheel cla…

A special constable was seriously injured during a raid on a suspected cannabis factory in Thornton Heath. The officer was using an enforcer to smash down the front door to the house when glass from the door fell and sliced open his arm. Fellow officers rushed to the special constable's aid as he collapsed outside the house, blood streaming from wounds on both arms. An ambulance crew turned up within minutes and rushed him over to nearby Croydon University Hospital, formerly Mayday, for emergency surgery. The raid, at a house in Jamaica Road, uncovered four rooms with 350 cannabis plants worth more than £170,000 plus evidence of two previous grows. The house, s…
