http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-11542003 A car park kiosk in Brighton is being turned into a Tardis-style police box to tackle anti-social behaviour such as drug taking and theft from cars. Community police officers will use the converted kiosk in the underground car park near St James's Street as a base to give a high profile presence. The kiosk will also be used by officers for neighbourhood surgeries. It follows complaints from residents about anti-social behaviour at the car park, owned by the city council. Brighton and Hove City Council staff came up with the idea of turning the former attendants' kiosk into the Dr Who-style police box. They are co…

Tributes from survivors of 7/7 bombings today to off-duty Liz Kenworthy. Two victims of the July 7 bombings who both lost their legs in the blast have told how they owe their lives to an off-duty woman police officer. Andrew Brown told the inquest into the 52 victims that he thought he was alright after the explosion and tried to help his fellow passengers. Martine Wright, now Martine Wiltshire following her marriage, said she had only been on the train because she got up late for work. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11574294 On the eve of massive public sector cuts, Sir Hugh Orde, president of the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) sets out the challenges faced by forces up and down the country. It's not easy being responsible for public money - but when you are spending to protect the public, then the job is as difficult as it can be. That's the position that 43 chief constables in England and Wales are in as they prepare to see the red ink on the spreadsheets dispatched later this week from Whitehall. Sir Hugh Orde, president of Acpo, and chief officers in headquarters across the UK have spent months trying to work out what the cuts wil…

(Photo's courtesy of PC G.Thomas (MPS) David Cameron paid tribute today to the "unbelievable guts" of a Met police officer who made the "ultimate sacrifice" when trying to catch armed robbers. Pc Gary Toms, 37, was thrown out of an armed response car and smashed his head on a kerb during a high-speed pursuit in east London in April last year. He died six days later. Unveiling a memorial in Ashlin Road, Leyton, where Pc Toms was fatal…

The family of a Leicestershire woman who killed herself and her disabled daughter after suffering years of abuse from local youths is to sue the police. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-11492172 Why not sue those who created this mess? Specials are unpaid volunteer officers who work alongside full-time police colleagues for a set number of hours each month. Earlier this year Hampshire Constabulary decided Specials in Southampton should receive a full council tax rebate to attract more recruits to the role. The aim was to increase the number of Specials in the city. And it has seen numbers jump from 65 to 75. Ms Thorn…
